Week 4 Rewind: Everything’s Coming Up Roses For Blazer5 Gaming

Take a look back at the week that was in the NBA 2K League with a collection of some of the best games, performances, highlights and more from around the 2KL world.

* * *

Games of the Week

Blazer5 Gaming 63, 76ers GC 49: If you were looking for a close contest, you were likely let down as this one was B5 all the way. 76ers GC looked out of sorts for large stretches of the highly anticipated showdown. They failed to score over 13 points in any quarter and committed an uncharacteristic 19 turnovers. B5 completed their weekend sweep in impressive fashion, winning their sixth straight game in the runaway victory.

Mavs Gaming 57, Hawks Talon GC 55: Mavs Gaming’s unbeaten mark looked in serious jeopardy as they entered the fourth quarter trailing by five points. An ensuing 12-2 run put them in front as the two teams were in lockstep down the stretch. Then, as we’ve seen countless times this season, Dimez lured a double-team and found PeteBeBallin for an alley-oop with 19.8 seconds left in what would stand as the game-winning bucket to move Dallas to 7-0.

Pacers Gaming 61, Magic Gaming 57: Pacers Gaming needed a second-half comeback to keep their unblemished regular-season record in tact. Matty (more on him below) came through with a career night in a game where his teammates didn’t have their usual big offensive outputs. The result was another narrow defeat for Magic Gaming, whose last three losses have come by just a combined nine points.

Blazer5 Gaming 86, Knicks Gaming 48: File this one under Most Entertaining game this week. At least for Blazer5 Gaming. In a rematch of last season’s opening round of the playoffs, in which No. 8 seed Knicks Gaming pulled off the upset, this one was never in doubt. Things were so out of hand by the third quarter, that Mama Im Dat Man and crew were more focused on dishing out trash talk than the actual game itself.

Outstanding Performances

Mama Im Dat Man, Blazer5 Gaming (32 points, 14 assists) vs Knicks Gaming: Mama put on an absolute show prior to the official votes being tallied for Intel Player of the Month, which he would go on to win. He simply could not be guarded, as he put together arguably his best statistical outing of the season. No one is playing better than he is at the current moment.

OneWildWalnut, Blazer5 Gaming (22 points, 18 rebounds, 7 steals) vs 76ers GC: The birthday boy celebrated in style, scoring two more points than his age to propel Blazer5. The points and rebounds have been there all season, but this game brought out last season’s Defensive Player of the Year Walnut, who was a disruptive force with 7 steals against Philly.

Matty, Pacers Gaming (31 points, 5 assists) vs Magic Gaming: Often the least heralded player in their starting five, Matty single-handedly carried his squad to victory. He established a career high in points, doing it while making 13 of 16 shots from the floor and committing just three turnovers. If he keeps this level of lay up, Pacers Gaming will be even scarier.

Vandi, Grizz Gaming (29 points, 11 assists) vs Bucks Gaming: This is the type of performance most expected out of Vandi when he was selected with the 7th overall draft pick. This was easily the best game of his young career, and it came as Grizz Gaming picked up their first win of the season. It might just prove to be the spark Vandi and his team needed moving forward.

Dat Boy Shotz, Hawks Talon GC (29 points, 3 steals) vs Nets GC: The top pick of the expansion draft has been a defensive menace to this point, but he finally broke out on the offensive end in guiding Hawks Talon to the victory. He missed just four shots, adding a pair a 3-pointers, in a dominant performance on his post scoring build.

Plondo, Bucks Gaming (17 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 7 steals, 2 blocks) vs Raptors Uprising: If you’re a center putting up this stat line, you’re doing it right. Plondo’s latest effort is about as well-rounded as one could ask for in a victory. He notched his usual double-double and was very active on the defensive end. It seems like he’s due to notch that elusive triple-double one of these games.

BearDaBeast, T-Wolves Gaming (27 points, 9 assists) vs Celtics Crossover Gaming: It’s been a few weeks since we saw this Bear. He was back in his comfort zone, filling it up in bunches while making 11 of 16 shots and finishing one assist shy of the double-double in guiding his squad to the double-digit victory.

That Winning Feeling

You think Blazer5 Gaming are having fun or what? No team in the league brings as much energy as this crew, on and off the court. They had more than a good time celebrating OneWildWalnut’s birthday following their victory over 76ers GC.

Tweet of the Week

Wizards District Gaming’s struggles are no secret, but Demon JT is putting the responsibility on his shoulders for righting the ship.

Quotables

“No, of course not, c’mon. I mean, who are we fooling? The league knows it, our team knows it, the other teams know it. We all know it. We’re just going to keep pushing forward, keep getting these wins and get ready for Vegas.” — Blazer5 Gaming’s Mama Im Dat Man on if there is anyone in the league who can guard him.

“I feel like I have the easiest job in the league. I have the best four other teammates with me, I feel like they’re all the best at their respective positions and they make my job so easy.”  — a humble Pacers Gaming’s Matty on his career night.

“At the end of the day, I’m the best power forward in the league.” — Jazz Gaming’s Gliz was a man of few words but not lacking confidence following his 24-point outing vs Warriors Gaming Squad.
