Week 10 Rewind
June 30, 2019
Take a look back at the week that was in the NBA 2K League with a collection of some of the best games, performances, highlights and more from around the 2KL world.
* * *
Games of the Week
Blazer5 Gaming 64, Grizz Gaming 63: The streak rolls on. Blazer5 survived a late scare to extend their winning streak to 13 straight. It was far from easy, however, with Grizz Gaming giving them a run for their money. Trailing by one, AuthenticAfrican finished an alley-oop from Vandi to put Memphis ahead with 2.9 seconds left. That gave Blazer5 enough time to set up one final play, which they executed to perfection. Mama Im Dat Man received the inbounds pass and found Jomar12 PR on a backdoor cut for the game-winning dunk to beat the buzzer. Just when it looked like Blazer5’s streak was about to come to an end, they found a way to get it done again.
Kings Guard Gaming 56, Warriors Gaming Squad 55: The longtime scrim mates got together for a nailbiter. Kings Guard trailed by double-digits after three quarters but came alive in a final frame in which they outscored their foes, 20-6. Some timely blocks by Sacramento helped fuel the comeback down the stretch, which was capped by alternating baskets. After worthingcolt finished an alley-oop to put KGG ahead, Bsmoove responded on the other end with a mid-range jumper for a one-point lead with three seconds left. That set up the final possession, which saw Zakyy610 finish in the paint for the game-winner with just 0.3 on the clock in a win that kept Sacramento firmly entrenched in third place.
Cavs Legion GC 64, Bucks Gaming 61: This was almost do-or-die for one of these teams, who both entered the matchup tied in the standings and in a fight for a playoff spot. Things played out as one might expect, with the score tight heading into the final minutes. That’s before All Hail Trey played the role of hero. Working on a post-scoring build, he nailed a tough fadeaway jumper amid a trio of defenders to put his team ahead by three points with 25.9 seconds. Bucks Gaming had one final chance, but a missed 3-pointer was followed by a shot-clock violation to seal their fate.
Celtics Crossover Gaming 61, Cavs Legion GC 50 (OT): It was only fitting that a week full of great matchups ended with a thriller. Boston was able to overcome a rare subpar game from oFAB to stay close down the stretch. With things tied, Cavs Legion had a look at a game-winner, but MEL EAST came up with a huge block to force overtime. It was all CLTX from there as they outscored Cavs Legion 15-4 in the final frame to run their win streak to seven in a row. The surge has pushed them into seventh in the standings with two weeks of play remaining in the regular season. For Cavs Legion, the loss gave them a split of the doubleheader and leaves them with some work to be done in the playoff hunt.
Blazer5 Gaming 73, Mavs Gaming 58: This matchup had it all as it featured the two teams with the best regular-season records in the league as well as a pair of top point guards in Mama Im Dat Man and Dimez. And then the game started. It was close through halftime before Blazer5 outscored their foes 22-14 in the third to jump ahead and coast to the finish line. It was a dissapoint result for Mavs Gaming, who dropped both games of their doubleheader and are riding a three-game losing streak. Meanwhile for Blazer5, the win helped them clinch the No.1 seed for the playoffs.
Outstanding Performances
Reizey, Magic Gaming (30 points, 15 assists, 2 steals) vs Hawks Talon GC, (21 points, 15 assists) vs Mavs Gaming: As if he wasn’t already out in front in the Rookie of the Year Award race, this week might have just sealed it. He turned in a pair of outstanding outings that resulted in two much-needed wins that currently have Magic Gaming sitting in the playoffs if the season ended right now.
DT, Magic Gaming (29 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals) vs Hawks Talon GC, (21 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks) vs Mavs Gaming: Reizey draws much of the fanfare on this Magic Gaming squad, but DT has been one of the most underrated rookies in the league. He always gets it done defensively, but this week he showed off his scoring prowess in averaging 25.0 PPG over the two wins.
BearDaBeast, T-Wolves Gaming (17 points, 15 assists) vs Warriors Gaming Squad, (18 points, 11 assists) vs Kings Guard Gaming: With his team’s season on the line, Bear was at his best. He continues to be a steady hand at point guard, igniting a doubleheader sweep for a fourth straight win, notching two double-doubles to keep Minny in the thick of the playoff race.
oFAB (29 points, 14 assists, 5 rebounds, 4 steals) vs Raptors Uprising GC: Seven straight. That’s Boston’s current winning streak in part to Fab, who entered playing as well as any player in the league in recent weeks. This was another huge effort for a player who should garner serious MVP consideration given his immense value to his team.
Plondo, Bucks Gaming (30 points) vs Jazz Gaming, (32 points) vs Cavs Legion GC: He’s morphed into one of the most feared post scorers in the league. He poured in a combined 62 points for the week, although his initial 32-point outing came in defeat. Still, Bucks Gaming regrouped in the nightcap, with Plondo scoring over half of his team’s points in a much-needed win.
AuthenticAfrican, Grizz Gaming (22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals) vs 76ers GC, (21 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists) vs Blazer5 Gaming: It was a positive week, although nearly a perfect one for AA and Grizz Gaming. He fueled them to an upset of 76ers GC and nearly did the same while posting a huge line in a heart-breaking, last-second loss to Blazer5 Gaming in what was almost a must-win game.
OneWildWalnut, Blazer5 Gaming (26 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals) and Mama Im Dat Man (21 points, 15 assists, 2 steals) vs Mavs Gaming: Ho-hum, another huge week from last season’s MVP and the front-runner for this year’s award. The duo’s statline is no surprise, but rather it was how Blazer5 dominated in a 15-point win that left no doubt who the best team in the regular season is to date.
