Thoughts and Observations From NBA 2K League Week 4

While some teams in the NBA 2K League are already settling into the thought that they will need to win THE TICKET powered by AT&T to qualify for the postseason, others are getting comfortable with the concept that they’re among the best in their respective conferences.

That’s the predominant theme in my Week 4 Thoughts and Observations.

The Champs are Here

Don’t look now, but the Season 3 champs, Wizards District Gaming is rounding into form. With back-to-back sweeps of Nets GC and the struggling Raptors Uprising squads, the champs have now won five games in a row.

They trail the equally hot Grizz Gaming by one game in the Eastern Conference standings, but no one is lining up to play WDG.

JBM and Dayfri have been excellent over the past two weeks. The two averaged 48 points per game in Week 4, and all eyes will be on them in Week 5 in an epic battle for Eastern Conference supremacy against Grizz Gaming.

Only Team With Two Players Ranked in the Top 10 in Scoring

Here is something you probably didn’t know; Pistons GT is the only team in the NBA 2K League who has two players in the Top 10 in scoring.

While Pistons GT has only played in eight games, along with Celtics Crossover, that’s the fewest in the league, they may have one of the deadliest backcourts. Dynamic rookie Greenlight and superstar Radiant have teamed together to average a combined 53.4 points per game with each man contributing 26.7.

Week 5 is going to be a significant test for Pistons GT as they will face Pacers Gaming and Mavs Gaming in a prove-it week for this squad. By the end of the week, we should have a good idea what their ceiling will be this season.

What’s Wrong With the Hawks?

Hawks Talon GC looked like a team set to be a factor in the Eastern Conference. They were 5-3 heading into Week 3 and ran into a wall.

Wesley Acuff’s team has dropped six straight and fallen close to the bottom of the conference. They have the potential to compete with the best teams in the league, as evidenced by their Week 1 win over Grizz Gaming. In fact, that is Vandi and Co’s only loss of the season. The Hawks have to shoot the three better than they did in Week 4. Against Heat Check Gaming, the Hawks made 16 of 40 attempts from long range which included a woeful 5-for-18 performance in the second loss.

In Week 5, they have a single series against another Eastern Conference team that is trying to find itself in Magic Gaming. We’ll see how things unfold.

Survey Says…

How respected is Pacers Gaming rookie 630 aka The IllState Menace?

I posted a poll on Twitter asking which player was the top PG in the NBA 2K League. 630 was walking away with the race grabbing 35% of the fan votes. The next closest person, Jazz Gaming’s Splashy had just 24%. Take a look at the poll:

I said it last week, and Dirk said it on the NBA 2K League broadcast on Friday, but don’t be shocked if we’re looking at the first player ever to win the Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season.
