Thoughts and Observations From NBA 2K League Week 3
June 14, 2021
Two of the league’s best teams were on a bye in Week 3 of the NBA 2K League (T-Wolves Gaming and Grizz Gaming), so this was an opportunity for some other squads to make a mark. We also saw Saturday’s games set up as “Something’s Got to Give” Saturday with two teams at the bottom of the standings squaring off.
Let’s get into my thoughts and observations.
My Goodness, Bucks Gaming is Bad
Bucks Gaming fell to 0-10, and at this point, it is tough to find one reason for their futility. Is the defense bad? Yes, they allowed 73 points per contest to a woeful Lakers team that is run by the league’s worst point guard in Bohio. However, the issues go deeper than that. Last year’s Rookie of the Year Regg has a great attitude, but it is unclear if it is what is necessary to pull this team out of the doldrums.
Despite their 0-9 start, Regg was all smiles heading into the final contest. We want everyone to be happy, but it’s perplexing to see such joy in the midst of such miserable performances. Plondo, the team’s center, looks to be dying inside with every L the team takes.
It’s a tough situation to watch, but who knows when they will right the ship. Thankfully, they are on bye in Week 4. Perhaps they can find the keys to at least one win when they return to action.
Raptors Uprising GC Isn’t Much Better
If Bucks Gaming have been masters of disaster, Raptors Uprising GC are surely apprentices. They did manage to get their first win of the season over a sleepwalking Celtics Crossover Gaming team, but it wasn’t enough to change what appears to be a bleak outlook on the season overall.
Things could get even worse for RUG in Week 4 as they have a series against a resurgent Mavs Gaming squad, and the defending champion Wizards District team.
If they are 1-13 after Week 4, I vote we allow Kenny Got Work and Co. to use the All-Time Raptors team in NBA 2K rather than their current archetypes.
Hornets Venom GT Might Be the Most Slept-On Team in the League
Enough talk about the losing teams in the league, let’s focus on one of the most pleasant surprises. Raise your hand if you thought Hornets Venom GT would get off to an 8-2 start. If you have your hand up and your name isn’t Bigg West or Nacho Traynor, I don’t believe you.
The backcourt play of Sherm and Rigby has been stellar, and PeteBeBallin has been one of the league’s best bigs. Their thrilling 80-79 win over Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai to secure the series sweep put a cap on a strong week. Expect to see them make a major leap on my power rankings.
630 is Running Away With ROTY Race
Pacers Gaming might have been a little humbled this week after getting swept by the previously winless Cavs Legion GC. However, rookie point guard 630 isn’t slowing down even a little bit. He’s averaging 34.8 points per game and he’s established himself as arguably the league’s most dangerous scorer.
Before it is all said and done, he’ll get a push from No. 1 overall pick Krazy and Pistons GT’s fantastic second-round pick Greenlight. However, the No. 2 pick 630 has been the league’s most impacting rookie as he leads an 8-2 squad.
Heat Check Gaming Save Their Season
Things looked downright desperate for Heat Check Gaming heading into Week 3. They were 1-7 and it appeared as though they were on the cusp of being pushed out of playoff contention.
They had a rough schedule to start with series against T-Wolves Gaming and Grizz Gaming. Thank goodness for a series against the Lakers Gaming and Magic Gaming in Week 4.
Hotshot and Sav flipped on their refuse-to-lose mentality and led the team to a 4-0 Week 3 performance.
Suddenly, this team is 5-7 and the tough losses to elite teams are now in a better perspective. They still have some work to do, but things look a lot better heading into Week 4.
