SLAM OPEN Week 3 Power Rankings
March 27, 2023
Lets jump into our third round of Power Rankings! The first record is the team’s SERIES record, the second is their GAME record.
- Knicks Gaming (8-2) (26-11) 60 points
A new #1 heading into our first trip to Washington D.C! Knicks Gaming had to come into this year with a vengeance and man, they’ve knocked it out of the park. They dispatched Handlez and Pacers Gaming with relative ease to earn a spot in the upper bracket, continuing a great string of play starting at the beginning of Week 2. Malik is playing at a superstar level, Stick has taken his game up a level in Year 2, and the Radiant-to-PF move has worked wonders. Three elite and heavily used players is a scary thing for any team to go up against. Are they the favorites to win the whole thing? For me, it’s them or Jazz gaming.
- Jazz Gaming (7-3) (24-16) 50 points
This isn’t going to be an entire paragraph of me saying “I told you so,” but I’ll get it outof the way early. Told you so! This team is damn good and only getting better. Rek and Kaaze look like two of the most polished rookies in the league, it’s extremely impressive how well they play under pressure. Ria is doing Ria things as well, but you can even see there is another level this team can still hit. We’ll find out their true ceiling when we get them on stage, but they are firing on all cylinders heading into D.C.
- Cavs Legion GC (7-3) (24-11) 50 points
- NBL Oz Gaming (8-4) (30-20) 50 points
- Pistons GT (6-4) (19-16) 40 points
- Bucks Gaming (9-2) (28-18) 80 points
- T-Wolves Gaming (6-4) (25-15) 40 points
I think the T-Wolves have finally figured out 3v3. Took them a full season and 3 weeks to do it, but nonetheless, here we are. The Kaii-TB-Slaughter combo works quite well on both ends. TB with his insane aggressive style and Slaughter with his rebounding and defensive prowess are a great fit next to ShiftyKaii. Speaking of Kaii, he’s been absolutely immense so far this season. He took their performance in 3v3 last season personally, he looks to have a real grasp on the game mode this season. Seeing him taking his classic above-the-break 3s are a terrifying sign for any opponent. I wouldn’t dare sleep on this team on-stage, never mess with Minnesota during the first tournament of the year.
- Nets GC (7-3) (24-18) 50 points
- DUX Infinitos (7-3) (24-13) 70 points
- Hawks Talon GC (6-4) (23-18) 40 points
- Wizards DG (8-4) (27-21) 50 points
- Warriors Gaming (7-4) (26-21) 60 points
- Celtics Crossover Gaming (6-6) (21-23) 30 points
I think the decision to start Leche over FT in 3v3 is one that should be heavily questioned. I’ve heard a few reasonings for it. “Leche looked better in scrims” or “FT didn’t play the game much this offseason”, I’m not sure what the reasoning was, but I personally would never bench a guy who was top 5 at his position in 3v3 last season. Certainly not to open the year! Regardless, the correct decision was made this week and with FT back in the lineup, the team took of. Combine that with a much better week from Tayzo and the Celtics are looking like the Celtics again. The true test will come on stage, they will face the loser of Cavs Legion/Hawks Talo, so maybe we should hold our opinions on the FT revival until after that series is over. For now, CLTX feels back to their 3v3 winning ways. Makes you wonder what lineup they’ll put out there for the Switch next month.
- 76ers GC (6-5) (24-22) 50 points
- Lakers Gaming (5-6) (23-27) 40 points
16. Grizz Gaming (6-6) (24-22) 40 points
17. Pacers Gaming (5-7) (22-24) 30 points
- Gen.G Tigers (4-6) (19-25) 40 points
- Hornets Venom GT (4-8) (20-29) 20 points
Raptors Uprising GC (4-7) (22-24) 30 points
- Heat Check Gaming (3-7) (15-24) 30 points
- Blazer5 Gaming (2-8) (12-25) 20 points
- Mavs Gaming (2-8) (14-26) 20 points
A tumultuous start to Dayfri’s 1st season coaching with the Mavs. In fairness, I wasn’t expecting a lot from this team in 3v3. They don’t have a great roster for it, but I guess I expected a little more than this. 5 losses all over their first tournament, multiple lineup changes throughout the week, and a true lack of a “guy.” We talked a lot this offseason about what Dayfri was going to do with KennyZeus and from what I’ve heard, they received a bunch of offers for him this offseason and said no to them all. But, after a tournament like that, I wonder what the Mavs are talking about behind the scenes. Kenny is a good player, but this Mavs Gaming front office didn’t draft him, the last braintrust did. I wonder if there is a shake up coming.
- Magic Gaming (2-9) (15-30) 10 points
- Kings Guard Gaming (0-10) (7-30) 0 points
