Six Matchups To Watch To Start Season 3 - NBA 2K League

Six Matchups To Watch To Start Season 3

The NBA 2K League is officially back on Tuesday, May 5th!

While we’re all just happy to have some sports to watch, there are some epic matchups over the first six weeks of the season to keep an eye out for. Whether it’s coastal rivalries, players facing their former teams, or just the best of the best squaring off, the NBA 2K League is BRINGING it to start the season, so without further ado, let’s deep dive into some match-ups.

Week 1: Warriors Gaming Squad vs. Kings Guard Gaming (Tuesday, May 5th at 9 pm/et)

We told you the league was coming out firing! We get hit right away with a massive west coast rivlary with 2-time tournament winners Warriors Gaming Squad going up against preseason darling Kings Guard Gaming. For Kings Guard, this begins a new era for them after trading BP to Hawks Talon GC this offseason. We’ll have the #3 overall pick Crush and the #17 overall pick Bash making their debuts next to Dat Boy Shotz, Seemo and Yusuf_Scabrz, assembling one of the best starting 5s any team could roll out to start the year. Unfortunately for them (fortunate for us), they walk into WGS, who has as equally formidable starting 5 featuring CB13, Gradient, BSmoove, Jinsanity and 1st Round pick and Type-replacement, Slaughter. You never want to get out the gate 0-1, but there is no shame in either of these teams losing in this matchup. Luckily for us fans, this won’t be the only time we see these two teams square off to start the season.

Week 2: T-Wolves Gaming vs. 76ers GC (Friday, May 15th, at 9:30 pm/et)

Finals rematch in Week 2? Finals rematch in Week 2! BearDaBeast and Radiant go toe-to-toe in this early season battle and while a trophy isn’t on the line, it’s still going to be an epic matchup. Each team brings a new player into their starting 5 with USERPICK taking over for Newdini for 76ers GC and Big Saint replacing Turnupdefense on the wing. Those new players could end up deciding things, but this star-studded matchup will gives fans all the intensity they can handle. We’ll talk about some great matchups in this article, but this is unquestionably the one to circle for Week 2.

Week 3: Blazer5 Gaming vs. Knicks Gaming (Wednesday, May 21st, at 9 pm/et)

A matchup that has a little less fire to it with Knicks Gaming not having the same players, but these two franchises are forever attached after Knicks Gaming pulled off that huge upset in the first round of the Playoffs in Season 1. We get a fresh matchup of these two teams in a true battle of the point guards. Reigning MVP Mama Im Dat Man and #2 overall pick Duck square off in a great Wednesday night matchup that should live up to the hype from the opening tip. Both teams have changed a lot since that fateful Season 1 matchup, but Mama and OneWildWalnut are still there giving this matchup some real star power. G O O F Y 7 5 7 may be in Memphis now, but Walnut will make sure that their new Center, #15 overall pick CantGuardRob, finds out why he was the Season 1 MVP.

Week 4: Celtics Crossover Gaming vs. Wizards District Gaming (Wednesday, May 27th at 9 pm/et)

Another juicy point guard matchup hits us Week 4 when Season 1 & 2 assists leader oFAB leads CLTX Gaming against #1 overall pick JBM and the rest of Wizards DG. Both are fantastic playmakers and should put on about as good of a passing display as you will find in any 2KL game. JBM hasn’t stepped on the court officially yet, but by this time, we will have seen him in four series and will certainly have his 2K League legs by that point. His performance in the Spring 16 tournament that Wizards DG ended up winning was enough of a taste to put a huge star next to this matchup. While JBM may get the hype, oFAB will be right there waiting for him, ready to show what it truly means to be an elite NBA 2K League point guard.

Week 5: Bucks Gaming vs. Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai (Tuesday, June 2nd at 9 pm/et)

They won’t be the new kids on the block by the time this game comes around, but Gen.G has a doozy of a game with Bucks Gaming in Week 5. By this point, we’ll know plenty about both rookie point guards, Regg for Bucks Gaming and ShiftyKaii for Gen.G, respectively. While Regg fell slightly in the draft, he landed in an incredible opportunity in Milwaukee with the chance to play with both Plondo and Arooks, two of the best players the league has to offer. Their offense should be rolling by the time this matchup comes around and if the preseason was any indication, ShiftyKaii is going to be almost impossible to slow down game-by-game. If you’re looking for an early-season clash of top picks, look no further.

Week 6: Pistons GT vs. Mavs Gaming (Tuesday, June 9th at 7 pm/et)

On it’s face, it’s a bit of an unassuming match-up. Dig a little deeper and you’ll strike NBA 2K League gold. Ramo vs. PeteBeBallin. Dimez vs. Demon JT. A fascinating rookie matchup of Charger vs. Sleetys. This is going to be a fantastic battle of two well-coached and disciplined teams with their eyes on a playoff spot. We’re heavy into the season at this point, so both of these teams are coming locked and loaded to a game with potentially huge playoff implications. This could be a game we look back on as one of the defining regular season matchups of the year. All in all, having Ramo and Dimez on a big stage will never get old. We’re due for a show in Week 6.

Games will begin at 7 p.m. ET every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with four distinct matchups each night. Over the course of the six weeks of remote gameplay, each team is scheduled to play at least eight matches that will count toward its regular-season record. Each match will be played in a best-of-three format, which will allow the NBA 2K League broadcast to switch between games in real-time and give fans more opportunities to experience the league’s most exciting moments. Each three-game-series victory will represent one regular-season win, and each three-game-series loss will represent one regular-season loss. The start-of-season game schedule will be announced in the coming days.

The 2020 season will once again include three in-season tournaments (THE TIPOFF, THE TURN and THE TICKET), in which teams compete for banners that link together to form THE BANNER CHAIN powered by AT&T. All 23 teams will compete in THE TIPOFF and THE TURN. The 14 teams that are not one of the top nine playoff seeds will compete in THE TICKET, which will see the winning team earn the 10th and final spot in the 2020 NBA 2K League Playoffs.
