Race To The MVP: Week 1 Edition

This article represents the opinion of the writer and not of the NBA 2K League.

The NBA 2K League season is still in its infancy, with every team having played at least three games and some as many as six.

In that time, we’ve already seen some incredible individual performances, from Radiant’s tear through THE TIPOFF to Arooks setting the single-game 3-point record to KingCamRoyalty’s rebounding outburst.

So which players have stood out the most? Let’s get the conversation started as we unveil our initial Race to the MVP rankings of the season.

1. Radiant, 76ers GC
Stats: 21.0 PPG, 8.3 APG, 3.3 3FGM

Radiant picked right up where he left off following his tournament MVP performance in opening the regular season in style. He scored a season-high 28 points to go with 9 assists in a blowout win over Raptors Uprising. We’ll give him the benefit of the doubt despite those 8 turnovers though.

2. Arooks, Bucks Gaming
Stats: 25.4 PPG, 5.0 APG, 4.8 3FGM

What more is there left to say about this guy? He simply has been the surprise player of the early season and the most feared scorer in the league to this point. It’s hard to have a better two-game stretch than he did this week with 73 points on 16 3-pointers in a pair of impressive wins.

3. Hotshot, Heat Check Gaming
Stats: 15.8 PPG, 11.0 RPG, 4.4 APG, 3.2 SPG

He is no stranger to this list after finishing as an MVP finalist a year ago. On a team that gets contributions across the board, Hotshot remains the biggest difference-maker. He impacts the game in multiple facets, evident by his most recent line of 14 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 6 steals and 2 blocks vs Knicks Gaming.

4. BearDaBeast, T-Wolves Gaming
Stats: 16.6 PPG, 7.2 APG, 3.4 3FGM

The league’s most vocal rookie just might also be the best first-year player. Bear stormed out of the gate and hasn’t looked back, taking the offensive reins for upstart T-Wolves Gaming. He followed up his strong tournament showing by averaging 15.5 PPG and 8.0 APG as his squad split a doubleheader in Week 1.

5. oFAB, Celtics Crossover Gaming
Stats: 17.1 PPG, 8.3 APG

Last season’s assists king again has Celtics Crossover’s offense clicking. While his assist numbers are down a tad, his impact isn’t. He’s fresh off putting up 23 points on 11 of 14 shooting with 10 assists in a testy loss to Hawks Talon GC. He’ll serve a one-game suspension before returning for the second game of a doubleheader in Week 3.

6. Ramo, Pacers Gaming
Stats: 13.0 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 5.2 APG, 1.7 SPG

Another MVP finalist from last season, Ramo has had little trouble settling into his new surroundings in Indy. He has, not surprisingly, been the workhorse on a team with three players who are among the elite at their respective positions. Ramo is averaging just shy of a double-double, but it’s his ability to find open teammates that’s made a huge impact.

7. KingCamRoyalty, Magic Gaming
Stats: 15.3 PPG, 14.8 RPG, 1.8 SPG

If there is a miss near the rim, chances are Cam’s going be there to clean it up. He so far has notched double-doubles in all but one outing and has collected 19 boards on three separate occasions. Cam looks like he hasn’t missed a beat after elevating his level of play down the stretch last season.

8. Mama Im Dat Man, Blazer5 Gaming
Stats: 28.3 PPG, 10.0 APG, 2.0 SPG

Yes, Blazer5 Gaming have underperformed thus far. Call it a hunch that they’ll get things together sooner than later. Mama currently leads all point guards in both points and assists per game. Expect to see him climb this list in the coming weeks as his squad gets on track.

9. Wavy, Nets GC
Stats: 13.7 PPG, 7.0 APG

Nets GC has a pair of rookies in Wavy and Lavish playing at a very high level, but Wavy gets the nod for steering the ship at a key position. The team’s lone loss came when he went scoreless on 0 of 6 shooting (although he still managed 11 assists). Take away that outing and he’s averaging 18.3 PPG in the other three games.

10. (tie) ProFusion, Celtics Crossover Gaming & Swizurk, Pacers Gaming
Stats: ProFusion (22.0 PPG, 5.0 3FGM), Swizurk (21.2 PPG, 3.5 3FGM)

These are the two best pure shooters in the league right now. While both have teammates higher on this list, they deserve recognition of their own for their scoring displays to this point. ProFusion already owns a pair of 30-plus point outings, while Swizurk went for 30 points on 6 3-pointers in his last game.
