NBA 2K League Week 10 Preview
July 14, 2020
A FABOLOUS WEEK: After averaging 42.7 points and 12 assists in Week 9, Celtics Crossover Gaming point guard Albano “oFAB” Thomallari was named NBA 2K League Player of the Week. The St. Louis-native’s week was highlighted by a performance of 38 points, 17 assists and three steals in a 94-68 victory over Pacers Gaming on Friday, July 10. With his team on a bye week, Thomallari and Celtics Crossover Gaming will return to action next week in THE TURN powered by AT&T.
PLAYOFF RACE: There are just three weeks of the regular season action remaining for teams to secure their place in the NBA 2K League Playoffs, which tip off Wednesday, August 19. Ten teams will make the playoffs: The nine teams with the best regular-season records and the winner of THE TICKET powered by AT&T, the third and final in-season tournament from August 13-15. With more than 15 teams mathematically alive in the playoff race, Week 10 is shaping up to be a pivotal week in the 2020 season.
DYNAMIC ROOKIES: Three rookies have been turning heads as they lead their teams in the chase for the 2020 NBA 2K League Playoffs. NetsGC point guard Josh “Choc” Humphries, the NBA 2K League Player of the Month for June, is averaging 29.2 points and an NBA 2K League-best 9.6 assists. On the heels of a game-winning basket against Jazz Gaming, Bucks Gaming point guard Reginald “Regg” Nash is averaging 33.5 points and 8.7 assists. The No. 4 overall selection in the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft delivered by Panera Bread, Dhwan “ShiftyKaii” White of the Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai, is averaging 31.2 points, 8.3 assists and 3.1 steals.
TURNING THE CORNER: After Week 10, the NBA 2K League’s second in-season tournament of the season, THE TURN powered by AT&T, will take place from Wednesday, July 22 through Saturday, July 25. THE TURN is one of three in-season tournaments (THE TIPOFF, THE TURN and THE TICKET) in which teams compete for banners that link together to form THE BANNER CHAIN powered by AT&T and prize money. Last season, THE TURN took place at HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas and was featured on an episode of “NBA 2K League: Locked In powered by AT&T.” Additional details about this year’s tournament will be announced in the coming days.
THIS IS NOT A GAME – Newdini: Selected in the second round of the 2020 Draft, shooting guard Antonio “Newdini” Newman has been a key component to Wizards District Gaming’s (8-2) early season success. Newman spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons with 76ers GC as a starter, where he helped his team win the 2018 and 2019 TIPOFF powered by AT&T and finish as runner-ups in the 2019 NBA 2K League Finals. Prior to joining the league, Newdini was a Walgreens pharmacy technician and a pre-pharmacy major at Illinois Central College. Newdini and Wizards District Gaming host Hawks Talon GC tonight at 9 p.m. ET and visit Pacers Gaming tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET.
