NBA 2K League Week 1 Preview

2021 NBA 2K League competition continues tonight at 7 p.m. ET on Twitch and YouTube. Please see below for storylines for Week 1 of the regular season.

TIPOFF CHAMPS: Making his NBA 2K League head coaching debut, T-Wolves Gaming’s Nick Gartrelle guided his team to victory in THE TIPOFF powered by AT&T, the league’s first in-season tournament of the year. With the victory, Gartrelle became the youngest head coach to win an NBA 2K League tournament in league history. T-Wolves Gaming earned $70,000 of the $160,000 total tournament prize pool. Dhwan “ShiftyKaii” White was named tournament MVP, averaging 22.8 points and 4.8 assists.

ANOTHER STAR CENTER IN PHILLY: During the offseason, 76ersGC acquired 2018 NBA 2K League MVP and Defensive Player of the Year Dayne “OneWildWalnut” Downey from Blazer5 Gaming. With averages of 18.8 points and 12.8 rebounds, Downey looked impressive during THE TIPOFF. Fun Fact: Out of the four annual THE TIPOFF tournaments, 76ers GC has now appeared in the final round three times and won twice.

EXCITING CHANGES: The 2021 NBA 2K League regular season will feature several new elements. For the first time, the NBA 2K League will be aligned into two conferences: the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference. In addition, the field for the 2021 NBA 2K League Playoffs Delivered by DoorDash has expanded to 12 teams and regular-season broadcasts will feature nightly themes. Click here for more information.

GAME OF THE WEEK: In a rematch of the 2020 NBA 2K League Playoffs semifinals, Raptors Uprising GC will host Wizards District Gaming in the NBA 2K League “Game of the Week” on Friday, May 28 at 9 p.m. ET. 2020 NBA 2K League Most Valuable Player, Raptors Uprising GC point guard Kenneth “Kenny Got Work” Hailey, averaged 26.3 points and 9.8 assists in THE TIPOFF. He will be challenged by dynamic Wizards District Gaming point guard John “JBM” Mascone, who averaged 24.6 points and 10.6 assists during the tournament. Two players from each team will be available to media via Zoom on Thursday, May 27 – Wizards District Gaming (1 – 1:15 p.m. ET), Raptors Uprising GC (1:30-1:45 p.m. ET). WELCOME, WILSON: The NBA 2K League and Wilson Sporting Goods Co. (Wilson) recently unveiled the Official Game Ball as part of a multiyear partnership. Using a unique silver coloration that amplifies the electronic feel of esports, the official NBA 2K League game ball features the iconic NBA 2K League logo on both sides of the ball and league name on the front and back panels. The league’s primary icon, wordmark and Wilson’s secondary logo are also displayed on the valve art.
