NBA 2K League Season 3 Week 1 Preview

JUMPING OFF THE SEASON: Moments ago, ESPN and the NBA 2K League announced an agreement for ESPN networks to air live NBA 2K League matches throughout the 2020 season. ESPN2 will air NBA 2K League matches on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. ET through May 19, marking the first-ever linear broadcast of NBA 2K League games in the U.S. Matches on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays will air at 7 p.m. ET on the ESPN app and ESPN.com throughout the season. 2019 NBA 2K League Champion and Finals MVP Michael “BearDaBeast” Key will be on ESPN’s The Jump to preview the upcoming season today at 3 p.m. ET.

WIN-NESOTA: In a dramatic series, T-Wolves Gaming was crowned 2019 NBA 2K League Champions after defeating 76ers GC in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA 2K League Finals. T-Wolves Gaming made history as it became the first expansion team in league history to hoist the NBA 2K League championship trophy. BearDaBeast and his teammates will begin their title defense on Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. ET when they visit Hawks Talon GC.

MASCONE’S MOMENT: Wizards District Gaming selected John “JBM” Mascone of Irvington, NY with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft delivered by Panera Bread. Mascone was an avid tennis player before picking up the controller. On the verge of playing tennis at the collegiate level, Mascone suffered an injury and turned his attention to NBA 2K. He will make his NBA 2K League debut when Wizards District Gaming hosts Raptors Uprising GC on Wednesday, May 6 at 9 p.m. ET.

DYNAMIC DEBUTS: Week 1 will mark the debut of two new teams – Hornets Venom GT and the Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai. Hornets Venom GT will visit Cavs Legion GC on May 6 at 9 p.m. ET and will feature 2019 NBA 2K League All-Defensive Team member Xavier “Type” Vescovi as well as first-round draft picks Justin “Snubby” Stemerman and Zaeya “Zae” Ishak. 2019 NBA 2K League Champion Christopher “TURNUPDEFENSE” Anderson will lead Gen.G’s team in its first NBA 2K League campaign as the team hosts Warriors Gaming Squad on Thursday, May 7 at 9 p.m. ET.

NBA 2K LEAGUE NIGHT IN CANADA: On Tuesday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. ET, Sportsnet will air NBA 2K League games on Sportsnet one and Sportsnet NOW, marking the first-ever broadcast of NBA 2K League games on linear television in Canada. Six Canadians are featured on NBA 2K League rosters this season – Destiny “Josh Jay” Idugboe (Cavs Legion GC), Mehyar “AuthenticAfrican” Ahmed-Hassan (Grizz Gaming), Yusuf “Yusuf_Scarbz” Abdulla (Kings Guard Gaming), Brock “NIKO” Nikolakakos (Knicks Gaming), Sten “SAV” Valge-Saar (Lakers Gaming), and Daniel “DT” Tlais (Magic Gaming). Toronto’s NBA 2K League team, Raptors Uprising GC, will make their season debut against 76ers GC tonight at 7 p.m. ET.

GM SURVEY: In a confidential survey to NBA 2K League General Managers by NBA2KLeague.com, it was revealed that general managers believe 2019 NBA 2K League MVP finalist and 76ers GC point guard Ethan “Radiant” White is most likely to earn the 2020 NBA 2K League MVP award. Survey results also found that 76ers GC Head Coach Jeff Terrell was voted best coach in the league. Click here to view complete results from the survey. With an all-time NBA 2K League regular-season record of 21-10 and two tournament victories, 76ers GC has established themselves as one of the top teams in the NBA 2K League. The team fell one game short of the championship last season and is looking to take the final step in 2020.
