NBA 2K League Power Rankings: Week 4
June 21, 2021
It’s already Week 5, and every team has played at least eight games. As we get deeper into the season, the top teams are beginning to distance themselves from the others.
With that said, there is a new No. 1.
1. Grizz Gaming 9-1
And the new top team in the league is Grizz Gaming. Vandi, Authentic African, and the crew rose to the top spot from No. 3 last week on the strength of a six-game win streak. They currently have a 13.3 point differential and are the new team to beat in the league.
2. T-Wolves Gaming 8-2
The Wolves fall to No. 2 after dropping a game to Jazz Gaming, but I wouldn’t be too alarmed. They may have let their foot off the pedal a bit in the second game, which resulted in a five-point loss, but this team is still rock solid.
3. Wizards District Gaming 9-3
The champions are coming on strong. Thanks to a five-game win streak, they are 9-3 and reminding people where the trophy rests.
4. Pacers Gaming 11-3
Rookie 630 is one of the biggest stories of the league. He hung 48 on Lakers Gaming in a virtuoso performance in Week 4. The squad seems to be playing even better together, and the best could be yet to come.
5. Hornets Venom GT 10-4
I’m a little down on the Hornets this week. They split with two teams in Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai and Knicks Gaming that they probably should have swept. To not get a sweep in either series was disappointing. They are heading into a needed bye week to try to clean up a few areas.
6. Pistons GT 5-3
I was tempted to put this team one slot ahead of Hornets GT after watching them sweep Kings Guard Gaming in Week 4, but I’m holding off a week considering they have Pacers Gaming and Mavs Gaming on tap in Week 5. The proving grounds are coming.
7. 76ers GC 6-4
Coming off a bye in Week 4, 76ers GC has a series against Grizz Gaming. I’m up for watching Underrated Goat trying to slow down Vandi and Walnut going head to head with Authentic African.
8. Nets GC 9-7
No team has played more often than the Nets so far this season. With 16 games under their belt, Choc and Co. are still struggling to find consistency. However, they rebound from a sweep at the hands of Wizards District Gaming to hand Hawks Talon GC the same fate. Perhaps Week 5 will deliver a perfect as they have just one series against the sweepable Celtics Crossover team.
9. Warriors Gaming 6-4
Hopes were high after going to the finals last season and getting off to a 2-0 start this year. However, Warriors Gaming has been playing .500 basketball since things aren’t going to get any easier in Week 5 as they clash with T-Wolves Gaming and a hungry Blazer5 Gaming squad.
10. Heat Check Gaming 7-7
When I think of HCG, I think of an Undertaker gif with the WWE legend popping up to a sitting position after taking a chair shot. We were ready to leave Hotshot and the boys for dead after they started the season 1-7. The team has won six in a row, and along with Grizz Gaming, they are the hottest group in the league. They must beware of a letdown against the identity-challenged Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai in Week 5 if they want to continue to rise.
11. Jazz Gaming 5-5
I’m still trying to figure Jazz Gaming out. They dealt T-Wolves Gaming their second loss of the season in Week 4, but the Nets have also swept them. If they want to advance beyond the middle of the pack, Comp Bayless’ group will need to show more consistency against the better teams in the league.
12. Kings Guard Gaming 5-5
Mama I’m Dat Man, and KGG salvaged something from Week 4 after being swept by Pistons GT on Friday. On Saturday, the former league MVP split with his former team to come out of Week 4 at .500 on the season. There are worst spots to be in, but this team doesn’t look like a title contender right now.
13. Blazer5 Gaming 5-5
Bash has been an excellent all-around player this season. He is the only player in the league in the Top-5 in scoring and steals, but this team cannot seem to string wins together for some reason.
14. Mavs Gaming 5-5
While they didn’t end the week on a positive note taking a 31-point beatdown from Warriors Gaming, Mavs Gaming had already scored their own 15-point victory in the first game of the series. I like the overall direction they are headed. They need to shake off the effects of the flood and prepare for Week 5 when they face the win-less Bucks Gaming and the dangerous Pistons GT.
15. Celtics Crossover Gaming 4-4
Worthing Colt and the crew were off in Week 4, and as much as I’d like to see them get into a groove, it’s hard to get excited about this team. Their style is tough to watch, despite Colt’s solid decision-making, which is a big reason he’s leading the league in field goal percentage.
16. Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai 4-6
Bsmoove still isn’t playing point guard, which is probably the best position for him on this team. However, they split with two of the best teams in the league in Week 4 in the Hornets GT and Pacers Gaming. The potential is there.
17. Magic Gaming 4-6
Far too often this season, Magic Gaming has come out on the wrong end of close contests. Three of their six losses have been by three points or less. What would we be saying if things had gone their way in just two of those games, especially the one-point loss to Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai in Week 1? There is time to turn things around, and they’ll be looking to move things in that direction in Week 5 vs. Hawks Talon GC and Cavs Legion GC.
18. Knicks Gaming 4-6
I admit I might be underselling the Knicks. Yes, they were 1-3 in Week 4, but they battled in two hard-fought losses against Grizz Gaming, losing by a total of five points. They then split with Hornets Venom GT. The Knicks are a grind-it-out team when they’re at their best. Don’t be surprised if they pull their share of upsets this season, but I’m not sure they are talented enough offensively to make real noise.
19. Hawks Talon GC 5-9
The freefall stops here for Wesley Acuff’s team. It’s been a rough stretch, having lost six straight and watching their record go from a promising 5-3 to an uncomfortable 5-9. Will we see BP moved back to PG, or is there another plan to right the ship?
20. Lakers Gaming 3-9
Every game I watch Krazy play, the more I like him. He’s the rare big in the NBA 2K League who often feels like the best 2K player on the floor. Still, the woeful PG play is hard to get past. I hate to harp on this weekly, but to put things in the proper perspective, Bohio scored a total of 53 points in four games in Week 4. In one contest against Lakers Gaming, Pacers Gaming’s 630 had 48. Every offense has its wrinkles, but the Lakers Gaming can’t afford to keep getting blown away in the PG matchups.
21. Cavs Legion GC 2-8
After coming up with two big wins over Pacers Gaming in Week 3, Cavs Legion GC came crashing down to Earth as Mavs Gaming swept them. After their Week 4 bye, there is still a lot for this team to prove.
22. Raptors Uprising GC 2-12
After winning their opening game in Week 4 against the Mavs by 20, RUG lost the next three by an average of 21 points. It’s tough being a RUG player this year.
23. Bucks Gaming 0-10
They were on a bye, which means they remained winless. Bucks Gaming will have two chances to beat Mavs Gaming to get off the snide in Week 5.
