NBA 2K League Power Rankings: Week 2 Edition
April 23, 2019
The offseason acquisition of Ramo figured to make Pacers Gaming among a group of title contenders this season. So far, the move is paying dividends.
Ramo and crew remained undefeated in regular-season play after Week 2, helping Pacers Gaming inch closer to the top of our latest edition of bi-weekly NBA 2K League Power Rankings.
Up with a Rocket!
Bucks Gaming jumped 11 spots into the top five on the heels of their hot start.
Falling Back
Two straight losses dropped Magic Gaming seven spots to No. 11.
- 76ers GC
Regular-season record: 1-0
Previous rank: 1
They got a breather this week after opening the regular season with a win against Raptors Uprising GC, powered by Radiant’s 28 points and 9 assists. 76ers GC are back at it with a doubleheader. Up first is a rematch of THE TIPOFF finals vs Celtics Crossover, followed by a meeting with Kings Guard Gaming.
- Pacers Gaming
Regular-season record: 3-0
Previous rank: 5
They’re one of two teams to move to 3-0 through the regular season’s first two weeks. Their calling card, unsurprisingly, has been defense as they’ve yet to allow an opponent to score over 53 points. Ramo’s near triple-double against Cavs Legion GC and Matty’s 17 points vs Pistons GT propelled Pacers Gaming to a doubleheader sweep his week.
- Heat Check Gaming
Regular-season record: 2-1
Previous rank: 2
This week brought a mixed bag for Heat Check, who lacked energy following a day of travel in a 23-point loss before regrouping for a hard-fought win over Wizards District Gaming for the doubleheader split. 24K Dropoff starred in the win, scoring 21 points while hitting all eight shot attempts, including five from 3-point range. Heat Check faces another doubleheader in Week 3.
- Bucks Gaming
Regular-season record: 3-1
Previous rank: 15
The darlings of the early season had a confounding week. They suffered a loss to previously winless Pistons GT but then ran away with an easy win over Heat Check Gaming. Arooks has been the focal point of the offense, but he got help in the way of BigMeek (46 total points) and Plondo (31 points, 27 rebounds) over the two games.
- Mavs Gaming
Regular-season record: 3-0
Previous rank: 11
They are one of the hottest teams in the league. After dropping their season opener at THE TIPOFF, Mavs Gaming have rolled off four straight wins. That includes this week’s doubleheader sweep of Jazz Gaming and Wizards District Gaming. PeteBeBallin and Mo have more than looked the part as go-to options alongside Dimez.
- Blazer5 Gaming
Regular-season record: 2-1
Previous rank: 7
Don’t look now, but this bunch is starting to get it together. Blazer5 have two overall losses on the season, both coming at the hands of Bucks Gaming. Mama Im Dat Man continued his torrid play while OneWildWalnut was again dominant in the paint in a pair of wins this week over Warriors Gaming Squad and Lakers Gaming.
- Celtics Crossover Gaming
Regular-season record: 0-1
Previous rank: 3
After a run to the finals of THE TIPOFF, Celtics Crossover laid an egg in losing to Hawks Talon GC in Week 1. Things won’t get any easier following their bye week with a doubleheader. They face 76ers GC in a game they’ll play without suspended point guard oFAB and follow it up with a matchup against Kings Guard Gaming.
- T-Wolves Gaming
Regular-season record: 1-1
Previous rank: 6
T-Wolves Gaming enjoyed a bye week following a doubleheader split to open the regular season. They’re back in action in Week 3 against Raptors Uprising GC and Magic Gaming, a pair of teams that are a combined 0-4 right now. The battle in the paint between FEAST and KingCamRoyalty in the second game of the doubleheader will be a matchup to watch.
- Warriors Gaming Squad
Regular-season record: 2-1
Previous rank: 8
An injury prevented Type, one of the league’s top defensive centers, from traveling with the team for this week’s doubleheader. His absence was felt, particularly in a loss to Blazer5 Gaming in which WGS struggled to defend the pick-n-roll. A 19-point win over Cavs Legion GC helped salvage things, as BSmoove dropped a career-high 30 points.
- Nets GC
Regular-season record: 2-0
Previous rank: 13
The lone remaining unbeaten expansion team during the regular season have come together quickly. With NateKahl holding things down on the defensive end, rookies Wavy and Lavish have made immediate impacts as the squad’s offensive facilitators. A doubleheader against Raptors Uprising GC and Blazer5 Gaming looms in Week 3.
- Magic Gaming
Regular-season record: 0-2
Previous rank: 4
They ran into some tough luck in Week 1, dropping both of their games by a combined five points. They return from a bye week to take on Knicks Gaming before facing T-Wolves Gaming. Rookie point guard Reizey will look to continue his strong play after averaging 16.5 PPG and 13.0 APG his past two outings.
- Hawks Talon GC
Regular-season record: 2-1
Previous rank: 19
After a bleak start to the campaign at THE TIPOFF, they are suddenly on the upswing. If not for missing Dat Boy Shotz in a two-point loss to Jazz Gaming, Hawks Talon could be looking at a perfect regular-season start. Shotz returned to the lineup in fine form, dropping 20 points with 6 steals to close their doubleheader with a victory over Kings Guard Gaming.
- Cavs Legion GC
Regular-season record: 2-2
Previous rank: 12
A perfect 2-0 start was followed by an 0-2 week with losses to Pacers Gaming and Warriors Gaming Squad. Their offensive was missing in action as they averaged just 51 PPG in the those two defeats. They don’t get much respite, however, with another doubleheader against Blazer5 Gaming and Pistons GT on the horizon.
- Knicks Gaming
Regular-season record: 0-1
Previous rank: 9
It’s fair to say the defending champs are not off to the start they hoped. They own just one victory in three tries this season, but are coming off a week of rest before facing Magic Gaming and Pistons GT. The biggest question is when will we see last year’s version of iamadamthe1st? Once he gets going, so too should his team.
- Pistons GT
Regular-season record: 1-2
Previous rank: 20
They finally got off the snide, picking up their first win of the season in a big way. New Zealander Jaacko made his debut with 21 points on five 3-pointers to led the charge in a hard-earned win over Bucks Gaming. While they fell short in pulling off a second upset against Pacers Gaming, things are pointed in the right direction.
- Raptors Uprising GC
Regular-season record: 0-2
Previous rank: 10
A win in their opener at THE TIPOFF had the positive vibes flowing. However, it’s been rough sledding since. Raptors Uprising have lost four straight games overall. They got a week to think about things as they head back to New York with a doubleheader against T-Wolves Gaming and Nets GC on the docket.
- Kings Guard Gaming
Regular-season record: 2-2
Previous rank: 21
Four games in two weeks have KGG sitting at .500 after their most recent split. They committed 18 turnovers in a loss to Hawks Talon GC in this week’s opener. Bp stole the show in the nightcap, finishing with 26 points on six 3-pointers with 7 assists to carry his team past Grizz Gaming.
- Jazz Gaming
Regular-season record: 1-2
Previous rank: 14
Facing a doubleheader and a need to get things going, Jazz Gaming picked up the win they needed but still didn’t do it comfortably. They let a lead slip away to Hawks Talon GC before holding on to win by a bucket. This after a five-point loss to Mavs Gaming for the 1-1 split.
- Lakers Gaming
Regular-season record: 1-2
Previous rank: 17
In hoping to create a spark, they mixed things up in returning KontruL to his natural position at point guard. The experiment didn’t work in a lopsided loss to Blazer5 Gaming in their opener, but things got better the following day as Mootyy led the way against Grizz Gaming in a narrow win.
- Wizards District Gaming
Regular-season record: 0-3
Previous rank: 16
A tough start to the season was compounded with a pair of losses to Mavs Gaming and Heat Check Gaming. They’ve lost three straight overall and have already experimented with lineup changes, including moving point guard Demon JT to a secondary ball handler role. WDG will keep tweaking until they find the right combination.
- Grizz Gaming
Regular-season record: 0-3
Previous rank: 18
Needless to say, it’s been a frustrating campaign thus fair. Five games played have resulted in five losses. Their best chance at a win this week came against Lakers Gaming, but they couldn’t seal the deal in a four-point loss. They’ll welcome an upcoming bye week to try and right the ship.
