NBA 2K League Power Rankings: Post-Week 5 Edition
May 20, 2019
There’s a new No. 1 in town. Warriors Gaming Squad are unbeaten in their last six games, including winning four straight during their recent championship run at THE TURN.
Their recent surge has propelled them to the top spot for the first time this season in our bi-weekly NBA 2K League Power Rankings.
Up with a Rocket!
It was a six-spot jump for Warriors Gaming Squad in their move to No. 1.
Falling Back
A string of losses have pushed Cavs Legion GC down four spots.
1. Warriors Gaming Squad
Regular-season record: 5-2
Previous rank: 7
You won’t find a hotter team in the league than this one. In the two weeks since our last rankings, all WGS did was cruise through THE TURN for the title in Las Vegas and follow it up with a pair of wins in Week 5. Their next doubleheader might be their toughest yet, with a rematch of the tournament finals vs 76ers GC followed by a battle against Bucks Gaming on the horizon.
2. 76ers GC
Regular-season record: 3-2
Previous rank: 4
They’ve been the best tournament team in the league to this point, posting an 8-1 record this season. And while they weren’t able to secure a second tourney title at THE TURN, a runner-up finish to Warriors Gaming Squad shows how dangerous this team is with money on the line. Come playoff time, that’s the only thing that matters.
3. Mavs Gaming
Regular-season record: 7-0
Previous rank: 2
Undefeated entering THE TURN, Mavs Gaming didn’t get the result they hoped for in bowing out in the quarterfinals against the eventual champions. They received a bye week before they take the floor in Week 6 with aspirations of keeping their unbeaten streak alive against Bucks Gaming and Pistons GT.
4. Kings Guard Gaming
Regular-season record: 6-2
Previous rank: 9
It’s been quite the ascension for Kings Guard, who opened the season at the bottom of the rankings. For a team that was basically starting from scratch with just one returning player, they’ve proven to be more than up to task. Bp has been playing like a top point guard and his supporting cast is doing their part, resulting in a four-game win streak.
5. Blazer5 Gaming
Regular-season record: 6-1
Previous rank: 1
The short flight to Las Vegas didn’t help them out at THE TURN as they were unceremoniously bounced in the first round by T-Wolves Gaming in a game that left plenty of bad blood in their mouths. An ensuing bye week should have them eager to get back on the stage, with matchups against Raptors Uprising GC and Celtics Crossover Gaming ahead in Week 6.
6. Pacers Gaming
Regular-season record: 5-1
Previous rank: 3
They were dealt their first regular-season loss in abrupt fashion, suffering a 20-point blowout to Kings Guard Gaming in Week 5. They regrouped and came back with a blowout win of their own against Heat Check Gaming to salvage the doubleheader split behind Swizurk’s 24 points. An upcoming bye week awaits them.
7. Bucks Gaming
Regular-season record: 4-4
Previous rank: 5
After a strong showing in the early portion of the season, Bucks Gaming came back down to Earth in Week 5. On the heels of a semifinals appearance at THE TURN, they suffered consecutive losses for the first time this season in falling to Kings Gaard Gaming and Wizards District Gaming.
8. Jazz Gaming
Regular-season record: 4-3
Previous rank: 11
Jazz Gaming have been trending in the right direction. They made a surprising run to the semifinals of THE TURN and opened their Week 5 doubleheader with a fourth straight win in beating Cavs Legion GC. However, an ensuing 14-point loss to previously winless Wizards District is a head-scratcher.
9. Heat Check Gaming
Regular-season record: 4-3
Previous rank: 6
All things considered, a split of their doubleheader in Week 5 is just fine. With head coach Famous Enough in Miami due to an illness, Heat Check played its first games since adding Hood to the lineup via trade days earlier. He scored 24 points in a win over Cavs Legion, followed by 16 in a loss to Pacers Gaming.
10. T-Wolves Gaming
Regular-season record: 3-5
Previous rank: 13
Their new-look lineup produced mixed results in Week 5. Recently acquired point guard JMoneyRep817 had 17 points and 9 assists in his debut, a win over Pistons GT, and then 10 points and 7 assists in a loss to Grizz Gaming. The move has allowed BearDaBeast23 to play off the ball, which could produce some huge scoring performances down the line.
11. Hawks Talon GC
Regular-season record: 3-3
Previous rank: 8
Things were looking up just a few weeks ago, but they’ve fallen back a bit in part to consecutive losses, including a double-digit defeat to Grizz Gaming in Week 5. The good news is it was their first game with point guard MrStylez, who was acquired in a trade with Pistons GT. Give this lineup some time to gel and the results should follow.
12. Magic Gaming
Regular-season record: 3-4
Previous rank: 10
Magic Gaming’s losses to this point in the season have generally been close affairs. That wasn’t the case in Week 5 as they scored just 28 points (including being shut out in the fourth quarter) against Warriors Gaming Squad. They did manage to beat Pistons GT to open the week, so all was not lost.
13. Celtics Crossover Gaming
Regular-season record: 1-4
Previous rank: 14
They doubled their regular-season win total at THE TURN, stringing together two wins, including an upset over top-seeded Pacers Gaming, to make their way to the quarterfinals. Now, can they translate that type of play coming off their bye week with a doubleheader against Blazer5 Gaming and Heat Check Gaming looming?
14. Grizz Gaming
Regular-season record: 3-4
Previous rank: 19
Week 5 was kind to Grizz Gaming, who doubled their regular-season win total. A victory over T-Wolves Gaming was followed by a triumph over Hawks Talon GC. It was a balanced offensive effort with all five starters almost reaching double-figures in both games, led by Vandi, who averaged 16.5 PPG and 9.0 APG.
15. Raptors Uprising GC
Regular-season record: 2-3
Previous rank: 15
Coming out of their bye week, we’ll see a new-look squad take the floor. Sick x 973 joins the lineup heading into a Week 6 doubleheader after being acquired from Cavs Legion following THE TURN. Raptors Uprising will be banking on their new big man to be a big difference maker down the stretch.
16. Cavs Legion GC
Regular-season record: 3-5
Previous rank: 12
Things are a bit unsettled in Cleveland right now. Already playing without suspended point guard LYKaPRO, Cavs Legion were trying to work All Hail Trey into the lineup for the first time in Week 5. The results were about as expected for a team in transition, as they dropped both games by an average of 21 points.
17. Nets GC
Regular-season record: 3-4
Previous rank: 16
They’ve been searching for answers in recent weeks after dropping four straight games. It wasn’t easy, but they stopped the bleeding in Week 5 with a hard-fought, overtime win over Lakers Gaming. A position swap by Wavy (23 points) and Lav (13 points, 9 assists) paid off in the process.
18. Knicks Gaming
Regular-season record: 1-4
Previous rank: 17
They’re one of four teams still stuck on one regular-season win to this point. Coming off a bye, Week 6 brings with it a game against Cavs Legion before a cross-city showdown with Nets GC, in which both teams will have a little extra motivation.
19. Wizards District Gaming
Regular-season record: 2-4
Previous rank: 21
ReeseDaGod shined in Week 5, turning in a pair of surprising performances. He scored a combined 60 points in the doubleheader sweep of Jazz Gaming and Bucks Gaming to help his previously winless team get not one, but two victories to get off the snide.
20. Pistons GT
Regular-season record: 1-6
Previous rank: 18
Just when it looked like they had their lineup figured out with Jaacko settling in, Pistons GT traded away their point guard, MrStylez, to bring in DevGoss, who excels in a combo guard role. The chemistry didn’t come together quick enough in Week 5 as they suffered a pair of losses in dropping their fifth in a row.
21. Lakers Gaming
Regular-season record: 1-6
Previous rank: 20
Even when things are going well, they just can’t seem to seal the deal. They forced OT against Nets GC only to go scoreless in the extra frame of their Week 5 loss. That came on the heels of 21-point loss to Warriors Gaming Squad. They currently have more questions than answers.
