76ers GC Defeat Celtics Crossover Gaming to Win THE TIPOFF Powered by AT&T
April 7, 2019
In a dominant game befitting of their new honor, 76ers GC became the back-to-back winners of THE TIPOFF, powered by AT&T, and also became the first NBA 2K League franchise to win multiple tournaments Saturday in a 70-52 demolition of Celtics Crossover Gaming.
In a score as lopsided as this one, it’s obvious to suggest 76ers GC put together a total team effort. In the first time in the 2019 NBA 2K League season, all five starting members scored in double figures as the team shot a near unconscious 29-of-48 from the field.
That wasn’t the only area in which 76ers GC showcased their balance, however. Not a single player for Philadelphia registered a double-double, but Steez (10 points, eight rebounds) and Breadwinner (10 points, nine rebounds) nearly reached the feat along with Radiant (27 points, eight assists). Perhaps more alarming for their future opponents, 76ers GC wasn’t even automatic from downtown, making just nine of their 21 attempts from three throughout the contest.
The difference in assists (18 for 76ers GC compared to eight for Celtics Crossover Gaming) was perhaps the most noticeable aspect in the game, as the now two-time TIPOFF champs seemingly had complete control of their offense – essentially just an explosive pick-and-roll game – where as their opposition struggled to make any baskets look easy.
Just because it was a balanced outing doesn’t mean Philadelphia was without a star player, a distinction Radiant easily grabbed thanks to his 27 points (10-16 FG, 4-10 3Pt, 3-3 FT), eight assists and a steal. One of the premiere point guards in the NBA 2K League at the moment, Radiant flexed his scoring muscles in the third quarter, slicing through the paint to the tune of 12 points, effectively putting the game out of reach before the fourth quarter even set in.
oFAB and company tried to keep the deficit within each, as the Celtics Crossover Gaming point guard also finished the contest with 27 points, including 17 in the second half. Unfortunately secondary star player ProFusion wasn’t able to backup oFAB until it was too late, as the small forward finished the game with 18 points, much of which came in junk time. Boston did well just to get to this point, however, displaying an absurd amount of resiliency throughout the tournament which should benefit them as the season progresses.
