2019 NBA 2K League Mock Draft

Jazz Gaming is officially on the clock.

After winning the draft lottery, Utah will make the first selection in the NBA 2K League Draft on Tuesday (5 p.m. ET, live on Twitch) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

This year marks the second iteration of the draft, with a few wrinkles. Notably the inclusion of four expansion teams as well a mixed draft pool featuring newly qualified players in addition to the unretained holdovers from a season ago.

Additionally, the position restrictions have been eliminated, meaning teams are free to add multiple players from the same position at any point in the draft. It adds a whole new ability for which teams can construct their rosters.

Some teams, such as Mavs Gaming, will be making five picks, while others, such as reigning champion Knicks Gaming, own a pair of selections. As was the case last year, there promises to be a curveball selection or two early that shakes things up.

Here’s a best guess as to how the first round will play out in our mock draft based on team needs and player fit.

Note: NBA2KLeague.com’s Mock Draft is the opinion of this writer and do not reflect the views of the NBA 2K League or its clubs.

1. Jazz Gaming — Ria, C

Similar to last year when Dimez was the consensus No. 1 pick, there’s one player that most agree is deserving of this year’s top spot. That is Ria, whose versatility will pay immediate dividends on this rebuilding team.

2. Warriors Gaming Squad — Gradient, SF

With a pair of top-10 picks and multiple needs, WGS can afford to simply take the best available player. That’s what they do here in grabbing Gradient, arguably the best lockdown defender in the draft.

3. Kings Guard Gaming — BearDaBeast, PG

A lack of a true on-court leader contributed to much of Kings Guard’s demise last season. Bear gets the nod among a trio of top point guards and instantly gives his team an alpha dog at the most important position.

4. Pistons GT (from Pacers Gaming) — Bp, PG

They landed this pick after trading MVP candidate Lets Get It Ramo in the offseason. With holes to fill in the backcourt, they won’t overthink it and opt to go with a dominant point guard in Bp.

5. Mavs Gaming — Kina, PG

What’s better than one great point guard? How about two of them. Mavs Gaming goes in a surprising direction in drafting Kina to pair with Dimez, immediately giving them one of the league’s top backcourts.

6. Bucks Gaming — PeteBeBallin, C

Blazer5 Gaming landed eventual league MVP OneWildWalnut at this spot last year. Bucks Gaming hopes to hit a similar home run with Pete, a true big man who has the potential to make a Walnut-esqe impact in his rookie season.

7. Grizz Gaming — Vandi, PG

This should be a fairly straightforward decision for Grizz Gaming — take the point guard they feel most comfortable with. Vandi immediately steps in as the primary ballhander, developing a nice 1-2 punch with AuthenticAfrican down low.

8. Celtics Crossover Gaming — NO xAUTOGRAPHSx, C

The selection of Autographs makes sense on a number of levels. He not only fills an immediate void in the frontcourt, but he also has a built-in connection with Celtics Crossover point guard oFAB from Pro-Am play.

9. Magic Gaming — MrStylez_, PG

Getting a point guard will be on the agenda for Magic Gaming. There will be a few candidates in the mix, but Stylez seems like the most natural fit as their floor general of the future.

10. Warriors Gaming Squad (from Lakers Gaming) — JMoneyRep817, PG

WGS rolled the dice in passing on a premier point guard with the second overall pick. They still come away in good shape in this scenario with JMoney available.

11. T-Wolves Gaming — Reizey, SG

T-Wolves Gaming can go a number of directions. They opt to grab Reizey, giving them a secondary ballhander and player who is no stranger to competitive play.

12. Nets GC — Im So Far Ahead, PG

The former Pistons GT point guard becomes the first unretained player off the board. His experience and poise make him a perfect compliment to the pieces already in place at Nets GC.

13. Hawks Talon GC — DevGoss, PG

Hawks Talon needs a point guard and will hope a top one slides to them. In Dev, they get a guy who is seasoned in the league after serving as coach of Magic Gaming for part of last season.

14. Mavs Gaming (from Wizards District Gaming) — BreadwinnerLA, PF

With their backcourt now set, Mavs Gaming can focus on addressing their barren frontcourt with this second first-rounder. They’d be ecstatic to see a player of Breadwinner’s caliber drop here.

15. Raptors Uprising GC — |1|may|1|, C

It’s likely Raptors Uprising will be on the lookout for a big man with this pick, and they should have a solid pool from which to choose from. May’s winning pedigree gives him the nod here over others.

16. Pistons GT — Byanymeansmo, SG

Given their lack of current backcourt options, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Pistons GT take two players who are dominant scorers and ball handlers in the first round. Adding Mo with Bp would certainly be a dynamic pairing.

17. Bucks Gaming (from Blazer5 Gaming) — OriginalMalik_, SG

After landing their big man with the sixth pick, Bucks Gaming goes with Malik, who is one of the top shooters in the draft and a nice complement to Game6Drake in the backcourt.

18. Cavs Legion GC — Sherm, PG

They’ve made it clear of their desire to add backcourt players in the draft. Sherm’s ability to thrive at different spots on the court meshes well with the versatile players currently on Cavs Legion’s roster.

19. 76ers GC — Shuttles, C

With four starters back in the fold, 76ers GC have the luxury of taking the player that best fits their core. It makes sense to beef up the frontcourt with Shuttles following the departure of I F E A S T.

20. Heat Check Gaming — EasyMoney, SG

Their most pressing need lies in the backcourt. While they could surprise and go in a number of directions, adding Money fills a need and provides solid value at this spot.

21. Knicks Gaming — BallLikeSeem, SG

The defending champions will only be making two selections in the draft. You can bet those picks will be players who won’t disrupt chemistry. Seem, who is the top unretained sharpshooter, fits the bill.
