Raptors Stun District Gaming

June 22, 2018

Raptors Uprising GC withstood a late charge from Wizards District Gaming, closing out Friday’s action with a 68-62 victory.

Boasting a nine-point advantage entering the fourth quarter, Raptors Uprising GC seemed to be firing on all cylinders. Picking on a newly tweaked lineup by Washington, Toronto managed to expand its three point first-half lead thanks to a variety of fast break buckets, mainly from small forward All Hail Trey. Trey would eventually finish with a lobby-high 26 points, 20 of which came in the final 12 minutes.

That lead would evaporate within a span of four minutes, as Jin, who had mainly played shooting guard or small forward for Wizards District Gaming prior to Friday, finally seemed to find his groove at point guard. 12 second half points helped push his final scoreline to a respectable 14 points, six rebounds and nine assists, and more importantly, created another avenue for Washington to move the ball as Toronto focused the bulk of their offensive attention on their stud power forward, Boo Painter.

While Painter did finish with 25 points and 10 rebounds, he coughed up the ball four times, perhaps playing a tad bit too aggressively in the opening 18 minutes. With the main threats, Jin and Boo Painter, finally molding into a cohesive pick-and-roll unit, Wizards District Gaming would eventually draw within four points with two minutes remaining.

That would be as close as Washington would get, however, as point guard Kenny would clutch up for his team, picking up a pivotal steal and at least two buckets in the waning minutes. Wizard District Gaming’s decision to rotate Demon JT to power forward Friday could wind up being a curious and costly mistake, as Washington has now lost two straight games. Given the win still sees Raptors Uprising GC sitting below .500 in the regular season at 3-5, a bit of overconfidence could have cost Wizards District Gaming pivotal playoff positioning if they are unable to correct to recent string of woes.
