Second Half Surge Leads Wizards Gaming District To Upset Mavs Gaming, 72-65

June 30, 2018

Wizards District Gaming (4-4) snapped a two-game losing streak by handing Mavs Gaming (5-3) a 72-65 loss.

Dimez and Dayfri were hot from the start of the game, scoring 25 out of the Mavs Gaming 39 points through 12 minutes. Mavs Gaming also completely shut down Boo Painter and xGREATxGILLY13 in the first half, as the two combined for only eight points and struggled to get past Dayfri and HazzaUK2K near the boards. The Wizards Distric still kept pace thanks to their small forward Jin, who made 7-of-11 attempts for 15 points, but were still down 39-31 entering the third quarter.

After struggling in the first half, Wizards Gaming trotted out to a 10-2 run to quickly erase the Mavs’ Gaming lead and eventually earned a nine-point lead at the end of the third. This 27-12 outburst was done in part by Boo Painter, who snapped out of his funk to deliver a few quality buckets in the paint. He wound up ending the game with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists.

With less than a minute left to play, Jin threw the dagger into the Mavs’ Gaming heart, hitting a long two to end his day with 21 points on 10-of-17 shooting. Although Dimez and Dayfri ended the game with 47 points combined, their efforts could not undermine HazzaUK2K’s rough outing. He struggled to work underneath the basket, missing all but four of his 15 attempts and bobbling several passes from Dimez while sitting in the paint.

The Mavs’ Gaming achilles heel has crippled them in the race for a top-three seed for THE TICKET tournament, but Dallas will most likely stay in the top-five teams with a game against the Warriors Gaming Squad next week expected to go their way.

As for Wizards District Gaming, they will have an opportunity to keep climbing the NBA 2K League standings next week when they face the rejuvenated Grizz Gaming, who beat the Knicks Gaming an hour before the Mavs-Wizards tip-off.
