Radiant Leads 76ers Gaming to THE TIPOFF Title

May 5, 2018

76ers Gaming Club held off a furious late-game comeback attempt from Blazer5 Gaming to take home THE TIPOFF title with a 75-65 win.

Blazer5 Gaming came into this grand finals with an undefeated 5-0 record through the first few days of competition. Meanwhile, 76ers Gaming had a head full of steam on the back of a pair of double-digit wins earlier in the day on Saturday. In the end, the momentum of 76ers Gaming prevailed as the team held onto a lead from start to finish.

After Blazer5 Gaming scored the first two points of the game, 76ers went on a first quarter run the likes of which we haven’t seen thus far in the 2K League. Putting together all of the pieces it had been gathering all week long, they ended the opening quarter with an 23-8 run. Again running with the quadruple sharpshooter archetype, it rained down jumpers with impressive ease to push that lead all the way up to 35-12 early into the second quarter. Doing brunt of the heavy lifting for 76ers Gaming were point guard Radiant and shooting guard ZDS. Radiant played lockdown defense and picked up steals in droves before dishing it over to ZDS, who finished the job every time to the tune of 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the first half.

Despite getting out to such a stellar lead, however, Blazer5 kept fighting, not letting the deficit bog them down completely. It all started when Mama Im Dat Man started setting up his teammates in the late stages of the first half and brought the deficit down to 14 heading into the break. Blazer5 continued pushing in the second half with some solid rebounding — going 7-to-0 to start the half — and transition play and, against all odds, eventually clawed all the way back to a 50-50 tie late in the third quarter.

The early portions of the fourth quarter were closely contested once more, with the teams reaching another tie, this time at 57-57. It was at this point that 76ers Gaming woke up and closed the game on an 18-8 run that completely stifled Blazer5. A combination of Steez hitting the paint hard and ZDS again putting up clean jumpers was far too much for Blazer5. All the while, Radiant — who garnered TIPOFF MVP honors with his 17 point, 14 assist, and seven steal performance here — was calling the shots like a well-seasoned maestro to bring his team to their first title of the season.
