Don’t look now but Pacers Gaming have won two straight, defeating Pistons GT 69-63 during the penultimate game of Week 6.
Timely three-point shooting, excellent low post offense and even better low post defense – this game featured it all. After a stunningly one-sided loss to Mavs Gaming earlier in the day, Pistons GT (4-3) hoped for a momentum turnaround against Pacers Gaming, who entered Saturday near the bottom of the NBA 2K standings (2-4). After picking up their first regular season win last week, Pacers Gaming opted to reuse their strategy from Week 5, utilizing WoLF 74 as a point guard while low post threat TuckerLocksUp took over at power forward, with FrostyTheTruth sliding down to center.
That lineup had success once again, as the big three put their stamp on the game throughout. WoLF 74 wasn’t the same scoring threat as we saw earlier in the year, but a renewed sense of ball movement helped Pacers Gaming stay even during a half that essentially became a battle of post players. Both teams combined to go 4-of-7 from behind the three-point line in the opening 12 minutes, as Pacers Gaming jumped out to a seven point lead in what quickly could be identified as a low-scoring affair.
That deficit remained through the third quarter, with Pacers Gaming maintaining a healthy advantage thanks to a combination of three-point shots and stifling defense. Both Swizurk and vGooner canned multiple baskets from deep during the second half, in particular during the third quarter, while TuckerLocksUp continued his reign on unsuspecting low post players. The No. 2 leader in blocks, averaging three per game, hit the mark by the end of the third and it was essentially a downhill run for Pacers Gaming from there as they would hold on throughout a relatively clean fourth quarter. TuckerLocksUp is quietly developing into an all around weapon, as the aptly named defensive star has now scored in double figures in two consecutive contests.
Pacers Gaming will look to make it three straight victories when they take on a feisty Bucks Gaming squad to begin the Saturday slate of games for Week 7. Pistons GT, meanwhile, will look to right the ship later that day against Raptors Uprising GC.
