Celtics Crossover Gaming opened their THE TICKET tournament with a victory, beating Grizz Gaming by a score of 85-61.
It was the oFAB show from the very beginning, as the No. 2 overall pick in the inaugural NBA 2K League draft made his mark from start to finish. Amidst a litany of timeouts (four in the first quarter) and turnovers (13 combined by both teams in the first half), the star point guard amassed 16 of Celtics Crossover’s first 20 points, all of which came in the first quarter. It’s perhaps unfair to say, but that essentially was the deciding factor in the game, as Grizz Gaming never managed to string together consistent offensive and defensive possessions. By the end of halftime, Grizz Gaming trailed 41-24, and by all intents and purposes, the game was over.
Of course Celtics Crossover Gaming would continue to pile it on from there, as Mel East, who registered zero points in the team’s previous outing, would go on to record the third ever triple-double in NBA 2K League history, finishing with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. While those numbers might have been exasperated thanks to the C’s monumental lead (Mel East had six points, seven rebounds and three assists at halftime), oFAB was a wrecking ball throughout, finishing the contest with 33 points and 14 assists.
Celtics Crossover Gaming will now get the pleasure of facing off against the winner of Blazer5 Gaming or Kings Guard Gaming, which takes place to conclude Friday’s final opening round matchup.
