Cavs Legion GC (8-6) spiraled into the final week of the regular season on a two-game losing streak, but may have just recovered in time to still make the playoffs.
Although the win did not guarantee them a place in the postseason, the Cavs kept in contention with a 88-77 victory over Magic Gaming (7-6), who were eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.
Entering the game, Cleveland promised some changes within their lineup, and they delivered by moving Hood back to his native position at the point. To accommodate the change, Sick x 973 moved to the five as a slashing rebounder, while Godddof2k moved to small forward.
The four sharpshooter lineup, while slightly uncommon in today’s meta, helped the Cavs, especially Hood, score from all over the court. In the first half, Hood nearly doubled his team’s shot count, making whatever attempts he could from the paint to the perimeter. He would end the half with 20 points, even though he would only make less than half of his 17 attempts.
His supporting cast would make almost every shot they took, which helped the Cavs lead by eight into halftime. Magic Gaming kept pace thanks to UCMANNY, whose sharpshooting gave Orlando 18 points, with 12 of those coming from three-point range.
In the second half, the Cavs played near perfect basketball, not giving up a single turnover through the final 12 minutes of the game. Their shooting was solid enough to keep them in the lead, even though their defense allowed the Magic to take as many shots as they did. Ultimately, however, the Cavs would win off a strong day from the free throw line and three more made baskets from the field, which gave them the double-digit victory.
If this is it for Cavs Legion GC, then they ended their inaugural NBA 2K League season on a high note by preventing Magic Gaming from making the postseason. If things go their way with the final games of the season, then they will be heading into the playoffs hot off of this confidence-boosting win.
