Bucks Gaming overcame a 10-point deficit in the second half to take a 57-53 overtime win over Cavs Legion GC in Group A of THE TIPOFF, led by late heroics from Game6Drake. It was the first overtime game in NBA 2K League history.
Having dropped their opening game against Pistons GT, Bucks Gaming absolutely needed a win as an 0-2 start to THE TIPOFF would have made the Playoffs on Saturday all but impossible for this team. Cavs Legion were surely aware of this, as they made sure that the Bucks had no room to maneuver for a large portion of this game.
After bringing a 32-27 lead into the second half, Cavs Legion, with the blistering offense of Hood, pushed that lead up to 10 points halfway through the third. Despite the Cavs controlling the pace of the game, though, Bucks Gaming did not relent. They started pressuring Cavs Legion with some lockdown defense that prevented them from getting into a rhythm at the start of the fourth quarter.
Bucks Gaming just kept on chipping away and, before you knew it, were within striking distance. Game6Drake, who had been cold throughout the first half, came up with a clutch three in the final two minutes that made it a one-point game. After Sick x 973 and Procis1on traded big-time shots that left the game tied in the final minute, it was none other than Hood that hit a clutch shot of his own to take a two-point lead with 18 seconds left.
At this point, it was Bucks Gaming time. While they missed two three pointers in that final 18 seconds, they came up with two offensive rebounds that kept hope alive. The first allowed them to call a timeout, and the second allowed KinG PeroXide to connect on the game-tying fadeaway jumper off the glass to send the game into overtime. Cavs Legion only put up four points in the extra period while Bucks Gaming secured the momentum and walked away with a solid comeback win to put itself at 1-1 in Group A.
