Cavs Ease Past Grizz Gaming With Hood on the Bench

May 17, 2018

-RotoWire-

Cavs Legion GC made easy work of Grizz Gaming with a 62-52 win to close out the first half of Saturday’s NBA 2K League slate.

No Hood? No problem. With the Cavs (1-1) playing without their star player, Hood, a major question coming into the game centered around where the team’s offense would come from. Up to this point in the 2K League, Cavs Legion’s offense has essentially revolved around giving Hood the ball and letting him go to work. This hasn’t always been the most effective gameplan, however, as was evidenced by the team’s loss against Jazz Gaming in Week 1.

The Cavs recognize the need to diversify their game, which led to Savage making his debut on Saturday and largely slotting in well with his team. He played the point guard position to perfection, tallying seven assists while also putting up 18 points in the win. The majority of his assists went to power forward Sick x 973, who was a thorn in the side of Grizz Gaming (1-1) all game long. He put up a game-highs in points with 24 and rebounds with 11. It seemed as though Grizz had no answer whatsoever to his dominating presence down low as he pulled in offensive rebounds with ease and gave his team an abundance of second-chance baskets. During one illuminating possession, Sick and center Godddof2k, who finished with 11 rebounds of his own, grabbed three offensive boards to keep the ball and eat up precious clock. That was how it went all game long as Grizz Gaming crumbled in the second half after managing to hold things close in the first half.

Both teams shot 50 percent or below in the 28-23 first half that saw the Cavs take a narrow lead into the break, but once the second half got underway, Grizz Gaming had no semblance of a rhythm. AuthenticAfrican was just about the only one with any sort of consistency with his 21 points, four rebounds and six assists, but he simply didn’t have much help to stave off the pressure from Cavs Legion. Once the Cavs went on an 11-2 run after Grizz got within three points at 37-34, that was all she wrote for this team.
