Celtics Overcome Slow Start to Hand Blazer5 First Loss of Season

June 27, 2018

Celtics Crossover Gaming put together a blistering comeback to take down the previously undefeated Blazer5 Gaming in a 69-63 contest on Friday.

From the outset, Blazer5 (7-1) looked every bit like the best team in the league by taking a 24-7 lead into the second quarter. Portland looked to be doing whatever it wanted from anywhere on the court as it kept the Celtics (5-4) bogged down at every turn.

Once the second quarter got underway, however, oFAB led the resilient Boston squad to one of the greatest comebacks we’ve seen in the short history of the NBA 2K League. oFAB shared the ball to every member of the team, picking up 10 assists in the first half as the Celtics utilized a 29-11 run to take the lead at 36-35. It was the defense that was key in this second quarter, as the Celtics forced seven devastating turnovers in the quarter as part of their huge run.

The third quarter was no different as once again the Celtics looked in complete control over the pace of the game. Boston again outscored Portland by a 22-14 margin to move into the final quarter with a 58-49 lead. Blazer5 tried to make things interesting in that fourth quarter, but it was all for naught as Celtics simply wouldn’t let up the pressure on the way to the massive win.

While the trio of Mama Im Dat Man, Dat Boy Shotz, and OneWildWalnut combined for 53 of Blazer5’s 63 points, they were no match for the quartet of the Celtics. There was the duo of oFAB (15 points and 18 assists) and MEL EAST (15 points and 14 rebounds) who led the way with matching doubles, and were followed by Profusion’s 13 points and Speedbrook’s 18 points. This game was a resounding statement that Boston is one of the most tenacious teams in the League and will never back dow. More than that, Boston demonstrated that Portland can indeed be beaten. With five full weeks left to play, things are just beginning to heat up in the NBA 2K League.
