The Hawks Talon GC dominated one game and had to come from behind in the other, but they still managed to complete the sweep against Magic Gaming on Friday, advancing to the next round of THE TICKET powered by AT&T.
The Hawks didn’t have major problems in Game 1 and got off to a strong start, jumping out to a comfortable five-point lead in the first quarter. The Hawks pulled away for good in the second quarter, though, as they won the second period by a comfortable 17-8 due to their impressive defense and the constant pressure over Reizey, Magic’s point guard. The Magic reduced the edge following a 21-12 third quarter, but they didn’t have enough in them to mount the comeback. The Hawks won the final quarter by three points and secured a Game 1 victory by a 63-55 score.
BP paced the Hawks with a strong 28-point, 10-assist double-double, while Kel (13 points) and Mr Stylez (14 points) did a good job scoring the rock as well. Lee only finished with nine points, but he posted 19 rebounds and four assists as well. Reizey was the top scorer for the Magic with 28 points and three assists, but he also committed four turnovers. ToXsiK also did a good job, posting a 14-point performance.
Magic Gaming got off to a better start in Game 2, however, and they built a seven-point lead following a 21-14 first quarter. The Magic held that seven-point advantage into halftime and the third quarter, but they couldn’t protect it heading into the final six minutes of the contest. The Hawks came from behind with a 23-13 score and, as a result, the Hawks completed the sweep with a 70-67 victory. It was a dominant effort for the Hawks in the final minutes, and they stepped it up when it mattered the most.
BP led the Hawks once again, as he ended with 40 points and five assists. while Kel had 13 points. Lee notched six points, nine rebounds and four assists. Reizey had 28 points and 10 assists in the decisive game, but his efforts were not enough for the Magic. DT filled the stat sheet nicely, as he ended with 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals.
With the win, the Hawks moved to the quarterfinals. Magic Gaming will see their season end during Day 2 of THE TICKET, powered by AT&T.
