Day One of THE TICKET powered by AT&T came to a dramatic close as Magic Gaming took down Grizz Gaming 62-54 on Thursday.
Grizz Gaming has been the team that almost has it all together throughout this season. After trading for Jayrod, this franchise looked like it was closing in on its first ever tournament win. Then, in a highly anticipated match where Jayrod would play against his former squad while the original Grizz team would play against former teammate ToXsiK, the Grizz came out completely flat. Finishing the quarter shooting just one-for-eight, the Grizz got rolled 15-to-three, and were at risk of getting blown out. The Grizz went on to win the next two quarters by narrow margins, but the first quarter start would come back to bite them. Jayrod took a while to start taking and making shots, ending with just 12 points on four-of-six shooting. Vandi couldn’t help but constantly attempt to throw alley-oops to AuthenticAfrican, but still finished with 21 points and eight assists. This game could’ve been the first tournament win in franchise history, but the Grizz just couldn’t bear the pressure.
Magic Gaming started off strong on a 15-to-three run to start the game, and would score at a steady clip to close out the win. Reizey was the player of the match by a wide margin, ending with a career-high 32 points, seven assists and a steal while only committing three turnovers. When a scorer as prolific as rookie Reizey is taking nineteen shots a game, you need to make sure the rest of the team shoots efficiently, and the rest of Magic Gaming stepped up in their own ways. KingCamRoyalty scored 11 points while battling with another solid center in AuthenticAfrican. ToXsiK scored seven points while notching four steals, leading the Magic to nine assists compared to the Grizz’ six. UCMANNY drew eyes as a three-point threat while DT got his hands dirty in the paint for five points and five boards. This win could’ve been much cleaner considering the powerful start, but Magic Gaming took care of business and move on in THE TICKET tournament powered by AT&T.
