Huge Third Quarter Ruins Mavs Gaming Winning Streak

May 10, 2019

Warriors Gaming Squad pulled off the biggest upset of THE TURN, powered by AT&T, knocking off No. 2 seed Mavs GG by a score of 64-60 to advance to the semifinals Saturday.

Dating back to THE TIPOFF, Mavs Gaming had won nine straight games and it certainly looked as if Dallas was well on their way to 10 straight until the third quarter of Saturday’s matinee game.

Leading by six points entering the third frame, a stifling Mavs Gaming defense somewhat shockingly discombobulated, watching the likes of Warriors Gaming Squad point guard CB 13 and shooting guard Gradient erupt for 17 of the team’s 22 third-quarter points. Most of that came off a variety of pick-and-rolls, with CB 13 going 2-of-4 from deep while Gradient would knife his way into the paint for easy baskets.

Center Type also proved critical, recording four points and two rebounds in that pivotal quarter, but more importantly picking up a whopping three steals, each of which led to some sort of transition bucket or half court high-percentage shot.

In what proved to the final bit of momentum swing, Type proved critical in the final moments of the third quarter, picking up two of the team’s three offensive rebounds with 40 seconds remaining – the final one yielding an easy basket to give the team a stunning seven-point lead.

Warriors Gaming Squad continued to maintain that lead throughout the majority of the fourth quarter, answering every bucket by Mavs Gaming and playing smart on their limited offensive possessions. 2018 No. 1 overall pick, Dimez, would finally get going in the fourth, scoring eight of 16 points in the final six minutes, but that alone wasn’t enough for Dallas to advance to the semifinals of THE TURN. Normally stout center PeteBeBallin would score just 15 points, including eight points in the final few minutes with Mavs Gaming spinning their tires, while small forward Mo proved to be one of the more reliable players, posting 16 of his own points on 6-of-7 from the field (4-5 3Pt).

For Warriors Gaming Squad, Gradient’s 23 points (9-12 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT) proved critical, while Type’s outstanding defense and rebounding skills (six points, 14 rebounds, six steals and one block) will be one of the more unheralded performances of the entire tournament.
