Mavs Gaming advanced to the next round of THE TURN, powered by AT&T, with an 85-70 win over Knicks Gaming on Friday. With the victory, Mavs Gaming will play Warriors Gaming Squad in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
The Mavs enter this tournament with somewhat of a chip on their shoulder. They are the second seed despite holding a 7-0 record. Pacers Gaming, who is also undefeated at 4-0, was awarded the top seed based on point differential.
Dimez serves as the leader of Mavs Gaming, controlling their attack from the point guard spot. He proved his worth by scoring or assisting on 10 straight points in the first quarter. Not to be outdone, OriginalMalik, shooting guard of Knicks Gaming, combined fastbreak dunks with a pair of three-balls to score 11 first quarter points including a trey in the final seconds of the first stanza, making the score 19-17 Mavs Gaming after one.
The intensity only grew in the second quarter, as these teams ping-ponged the lead back and forth. The first quarter belonged to OriginalMalik from Knicks Gaming, and it was takeover time for HazzaUK in the second. Knicks Gaming’s small forward posted 11 of his own points in the second stanza, helping Knicks Gaming enjoy a 34-33 lead at halftime.
Mavs Gaming came out firing in the second half, distancing themselves with an 11-2 blitz out of the gate. The pace was frantic in the third quarter, as Mavs Gaming ultimately took the 27-19 advantage in that period. Knicks Gaming couldn’t get a stop, and open Mavs’ shooters made the most of their chances. Mavs Gaming led 60-53 after three.
OriginalMalik drilled a three to begin the final quarter, and that cut Mavs Gaming’s lead to 60-56. Knicks Gaming wouldn’t get any closer, as the Mavs promptly responded with a 12-2 run. That ultimately put the game away, as Mavs Gaming cruised to an 85-70 win.
Dimez was awarded Intel Player of the Game honors with 21 points and 11 assists. Sherm was a huge part of Mavs Gaming’s second-half run, and he tied Dimez with a team-high 21 points. PeteBeBallin had 13 points, 14 rebounds and six assists from the center position.
Offense was not the problem for Knicks Gaming, as they posted some impressive numbers themselves. OriginalMalik had a game-high 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting. G O O F Y 7 5 7 had 14 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists despite the losing effort.
