T-Wolves Gaming took the win over Grizz Gaming in Thursday’s play-in match-up of THE TURN, powered by AT&T. With the victory, the T-Wolves advance to play Blazer5 Gaming in the first round Friday.
Grizz Gaming entered this contest with a 1-4 regular season record, but they had some wind in their sails following a triumphant victory over Bucks Gaming last week. That momentum translated to efficient shooting early, and the Grizz marched out to a 19-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. AuthenticAfrican scored eight of those points while Vandi had six points on a pair of threes.
T-Wolves Gaming would issue a response in the second quarter. That came in the form of an impressive 20-5 run that spanned majority of the stanza, helping the T-Wolves build a 37-32 lead at halftime. The Grizz lost their smooth offense from earlier in the game, as turnovers doomed their second quarter efforts. BearDaBeast, the point guard for T-Wolves Gaming, served as the direct beneficiary with 14 points, nine assists and three steals at halftime.
The T-Wolves manufactured a healthy lead in the second half, but Grizz Gaming went on an 8-0 run to make it a five-point deficit halfway through the fourth quarter. That’s when both power forwards, NachoTraynor and Jayrod starting making everything. NachoTraynor poured in eight straight points down the stretch for T-Wolves Gaming. That ultimately helped secure a 68-63 victory.
Credit T-Wolves Gaming for putting the clamps on Vandi. The Grizz point guard had 28 points and 11 assists in a win over Bucks Gaming last week, but he only managed eight points and eight assists with six turnovers in this tilt. He had a cold ring for most of the night, and the offensive execution of Grizz Gaming suffered as a result.
BearDaBeast took Intel Player of the Game honors with 14 points and 18 assists for the T-Wolves. NachoTraynor’s heroics down the stretch gave him a team-high 22 points on the night.
AuthenticAfrican had 24 points and eight rebounds despite Grizz Gaming coming up short. Jayrod got hot late, finishing with five three-pointers and 19 total points in a losing effort.
