Top-seeded Raptors Uprising GC faced eight-seed Hornets Venom GT in Friday’s quarterfinals of the 2020 NBA 2K League Playoffs delivered by DoorDash. After an undefeated regular season and tournament victories in THE TIPOFF and THE TURN, Raptors Uprising GC looked to move on to the semifinals, while Hornets Venom GT tried to play spoiler with an upset win.
Game 1 began with a strong showing from the Hornets in the first quarter, as the team used nine points from Expose to take a 22-19 lead. Hornets Venom GT maintained its lead through the second quarter and took a 36-34 halftime lead.
Raptors Uprising GC went on a 13-6 run to open the second half and grab the lead before going up five heading into the fourth quarter. Still up five with two minutes to play, RUG rattled off seven straight points over the next 30 seconds to go up 12 with a minute and a half remaining. The team maintained a double-digit lead and won the contest 74-64 to go up 1-0 in the series. Kenny Got work led the charge with 29 points, while Kenny Got Work notched a big 23-point, 14-rebound double-double. Snubby’s game-high 30 points and 13 assists weren’t enough for Hornets Venom GT to get the victory.
In Game 2, Raptors Uprising GC went up 39-30 at halftime, with Hornets Venom GT keeping it close to try and even the series. HVG built some momentum in the third quarter and cut the lead to seven (52-45) with 80 seconds to play. RUG quickly cut that momentum with a 6-0 run to end the quarter, going up 58-45 with just one quarter remaining.
In the fourth quarter, RUG built its lead to 68-51 with just over three minutes remaining, before finishing the contest on an 18-7 run to claim victory 86-58. As its done all season, Raptors Uprising GC used several big runs to separate itself from Hornets Venom GT and sweep the series.
Kenny Got Work provided a game-high 33 points to go with nine dimes in the winning effort, while Hornets Venom GT relied on a balanced scoring attack from its starters in the loss.
Hornets Venom GT can be proud of the season it had, despite running into a buzz saw in the form of the undefeated Raptors. Raptors Uprising GC advances to the semifinals of the 2020 NBA 2K League Playoffs delivered by DoorDash and will be heavy favorites when it faces the winner of Wizards District Gaming and Kings Guard Gaming next Saturday.
