Jazz Gaming survive Game 2 scare, sweep Lakers Gaming
Trevor Popoff I RotoWire
Just hours after learning that Lotty would be returning to Jazz Gaming via a trade with Bucks Gaming, Splashy and crew squeezed a sweep out of their series with Lakers Gaming on Friday night.
Before the game began, reports emerged that Jazz Gaming had struck a deal with the Bucks that would reunite Lotty with his former team. While with the Jazz last year, Lotty helped the team to an appearance in the semifinals of the NBA 2K League playoffs. Jazz Gaming also received a fourth-round pick in the deal. In return, the Bucks got Expose and a second-round pick.
Re-energized by the announcement of Lotty’s return, the Jazz got out to a hot start in Game 1. They scored eight unanswered points to start the contest, as Splashy and Lord Beezus each had six in the first quarter.
Not to be deterred, Lakers Gaming finished the frame strong. All 15 of their first quarter points came from their backcourt of ReeseDaGod and Seese. The Jazz took a 17-15 lead into the second.
The second quarter of Game 1 belonged to Lord Beezus. He dropped nine points in the frame from the offensively-challenged power forward position, as Jazz Gaming led 38-23 at the half.
The second half began with an incredible circus shot lay-up from ReeseDaGod. That was about the only thing that went right for Lakers Gaming in the third. Splashy took over, dropping 13 points in the frame and putting the game out of reach. The Jazz were up by 22 entering the fourth.
Splashy would add eight more in the fourth to ice a 86-59 Jazz win. He finished with a monstrous 29-point, 14-assist double-double.
While the entire Jazz Gaming team was on a roller coaster of emotions after the announcement of the Lotty trade, perhaps no Jazz player felt the feels more than GetOnMyLevel. Expose (the player sent to the Bucks in exchange for Lotty) is GetOnMyLevel’s identical twin brother. Mere hours after hearing news of the trade, GetOnMyLevel had to fill in for his brother and play his exact position against the Lakers. He played inspired basketball, dropping 17 points, three assists, two steals and a block in what was just his fourth career NBA 2K League game.
After such a lop-sided Game 1 win, it looked like Jazz Gaming were going to cruise to a sweep. While they did get there in the end, Lakers Gaming didn’t make it easy.
ReeseDaGod hit three threes in the first quarter of Game 2, and finished the frame with 13 pints. Splashy dropped eight to keep the Jazz in it, but the Lakers led 22-19 heading into the second.
If the first quarter was all about ReeseDaGod, the second was about Seese. He went off for an astounding 16 points in the frame, as the Jazz headed dumbstruck into the break trailing by 10.
After some soul-searching at halftime, the Jazz came out firing to start the third. They began the quarter on a 7-0 run, and back-to-back Splashy threes gave them a 48-47 lead halfway through the period. After allowing ReeseDaGod and Seese to drop 39 combined points in the first half, they held the Lakers’ backcourt to just two in the third quarter, and headed into the fourth with a 55-50 lead.
The Jazz expanded on their advantage in the fourth, as a combined 15 points from Splashy and GetOnMyLevel got them to the finish line. They completed the sweep with a 75-61 victory.
Splashy and GetOnMyLevel both dropped 28 points for the Jazz in Game 2. ReeseDaGod led the Lakers with 28. Seese failed to score in the second half, but still finished with 21 points.
The sweep moves the Jazz to 9-7. The Lakers fall to 3-17.
Jazz Gaming won’t have to wait long for some more action, as they’ll take on Magic Gaming on Saturday. Lakers Gaming is done for the week, and will play next Friday against Blazer5 Gaming.
