Blazer5 Gaming have taken another step towards becoming the new NBA 2K League champions after defeating the Mavs Gaming, 2-0, in the NBA 2K League Playoffs delivered by DoorDash on Thursday.
The Blazer5 didn’t waste time taking control of the contest in Game 1 as they jumped out to a four-point lead, 22-18, but they ran into some trouble in the second quarter — they were down by two at the break after the Mavs’ sound defense limited them to just nine points in the second period. Blazer5 would recover in the second half and, aided by a 23-13 fourth quarter score, they secured a Game 1 victory by a 73-64 score. The final score didn’t reflect how tight the game was, however.
As it couldn’t have been in any other way, Mama Im Dat Man paced Blazer5 with 28 points and 10 assists, while MaJes7ic notched 17 points and OneWildWalnut chipped in with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Sherm paced the Mavs with 29 points, but he lacked support from most of his teammates. PeteBeBallin did his part, though, with a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double.
Blazer5 used the momentum of Game 1 to build a quick lead in Game 2, and they were up by nine points (25-16) following the first six minutes of action. Blazer5 wouldn’t stop there, however, and they won the second (20-14) and third (23-16) quarters rather comfortably, pulling away for good ahead of the fourth quarter. The Mavs couldn’t complete what would’ve been a miraculous comeback, and Blazer5 closed things out with an 85-68 win in Game 2.
Mama Im Dat Man (36 points, eight assists) and MaJes7ic (22 points) combined for 58 points — between both, they scored almost the entire point total of the Mavs in Game 2. OneWildWalnut had 17 points, 16 boards, four assists, three blocks and two steals. Sherm had 26 points for Mavs Gaming, but he also committed six turnovers. Dimez had 14 points and PeteBeBallin notched 14 points with eight boards.
With the win, now Blazer5 Gaming moves one step closer to the title. They will face Jazz Gaming in the next round of the NBA 2K League Playoffs delivered by DoorDash on Friday.
