RotoWire – Jeff Edgerton
Raptors Uprising GC continued their rampant run through the NBA 2K League, claiming a 2-0 victory over a struggling Lakers Gaming on Thursday.
Lakers Gaming looked like the better team early in the first quarter, as they led by as much as seven points in the first six minutes. This unlikely series of events could have been due to the back-to-back game fatigue.Their slow start didn’t last long, however. The Raptors charged back to lead by one at the end of the first frame and pushed their lead up by as much as eight points as the second quarter continued. The Raptors began to pull away as halftime neared, and they went into the locker room with a 44-33 lead. Kenny Got Work, one of the league’s best backcourt players, scored 24 of the Raptors’ 44 points in the first 12 minutes.
Lakers Gaming was able to capitalize on some Raptors turnovers and cut into their lead in the third frame, which was unfamiliar territory for the Raptors. They are notorious for excellent play in the third quarter, and it wasn’t long before we saw their usual second-half explosion via the long ball. They entered the final six minutes holding a 65-58 lead. The Lakers tried to mount a charge in the fourth, but it’s hard to get past the Raptors, who are easily the best 3-point shooting team in the league. They continued their barrage from beyond the arc and made it nearly impossible for the Lakers to gain any ground. The Lakers made a huge charge to cut it to four points, but that was as close as they got. Raptors Uprising took Game 1, 90-85. Kenny Got Work went to town with 42 points and 11 assists with six threes to lead the Raptors.
The beginning of Game 2 looked a lot like Game 1, as the Lakers got a slim lead early but slowly fell prey to the Raptors Uprising GC’s defense and overwhelming offensive production. The Uprising held the lead throughout the second quarter and went into the third with a 48-37 lead.
Raptors Uprising GC extended their lead with minimal effort, as the Lakers committed several errors that resulted in points going the other way. With a 19-point lead going into the fourth, the Raptors appeared poised to grab their 15th win. To no one’s surprise, the Raptors gradually turned this game into a blowout, and they cruised to a 99-68 win to sweep the series and extend their winning streak to 15. Sick One and Kenny Got Work added two excellent stat lines to their extensive resumes in the decisive win.
Raptors Uprising (15-0) will play Cavs Legion GC in their last regular-season game. Lakers Gaming (3-12) play their final game against Bucks Gaming next week.
