Jazz Gaming (13-2) faced Cavs Legion GC (4-10) on Thursday in the penultimate night of the regular season of 2K League play. Jazz Gaming looked to lock up the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, but Cavs Legion GC (eliminated from playoff contention) sought to play spoiler.
Game 1 was close in the first quarter only, as Cavs Legion GC jumped out to an early lead, but it was all Jazz Gaming from there. The latter outscored Cavs Legion GC 71-45 for the final three quarters to win the contest 89-65. Splashy erupted for 48 points and 12 assists and had the hot hand from three, draining 10-of-13 shots from beyond the arc. Ria chipped in a double-double in the winning effort.
The one-sided contest was a result of a large discrepancy in threes and turnovers. Jazz Gaming knocked down 20 triples and committed only five turnovers, compared to just two triples and 16 turnovers for Cavs Legion GC.
Cavs Legion GC turned things around in Game 2, building a 36-24 halftime lead and pushing that lead to a final score of 79-64 to even the series at one game apiece. Strainer came alive with 33 points and a perfect 5-of-5 shooting from downtown, while All Hail Trey provided a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double to power Cavs Legion GC to the victory. Splashy was held to just 16 points on 8-of-19 shooting, and Cavs Legion GC won both the turnover and three-point battles.
Jazz Gaming came out firing on all cylinders in the decisive Game 3 and built a 45-25 halftime lead behind 19 points from Splashy, 11 from Lord Beezus and 10 points and nine boards from Ria. The lead ballooned in the second half, and Jazz Gaming finished with a commanding 91-55 victory to win the series in dominating fashion. Splashy scored 19 points in the second half to finish with 38 for the game, and Ria posted a massive stat line of 22 points, 18 boards, five assists and four steals.
Jazz Gaming finishes the regular season 14-2 and locks up the No. 2 seed for the 2K League playoffs. Cavs Legion GC falls to 4-11 with the loss and will wrap up the regular season Friday against Raptors Uprising GC.
