Wednesday’s matchup between Gen. G Tigers and Blazer5 Gaming promised to have a little bit of everything for the avid NBA2K viewer – two teams with sharpshooting 3-point threats along with a duo of imposing big men. After both teams suffered 2-1 series losses last week, this game was an opportunity for one of these promising squads to right the ship. Although Portland has proven to be one of the more dangerous teams in the league thanks in large part to their star guard, Mama Im Dat Man, Gen G. found a way to get the job done with a 2-0 series sweep.
Things were tight in the early going of Game 1, but Portland rattled off a 33-14 run in the first half, resulting in a commanding 41-24 lead at halftime. Gen. G Made some adjustments at the break and stormed back in the third quarter, aided by badge takeovers for ShiftyKai and DeadEye. The scoring burst from the Tigers narrowed Portland’s lead to three points heading into the fourth quarter. In what proved to be one of the league’s biggest comebacks this season, Gen. G erased Portland’s huge lead and took Game 1, 77-69. ShiftyKaii led the way for Shanghai, posting a 33-point, 11-assist double-double. DeadEye record an outstanding game in the paint with a 15-point, 16-rebound double-double, and Gen contributed 17 points in the win. Mama Im Dat Man continued his tear of scoring with a 41-point effort in the loss, cementing his place as the league’s top scorer through six weeks of play. OneWildWalnut also played well in the loss, hanging tough with DeadEye with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Game 2 commenced with Gen G. picking up where it left off, as the Tigers went to town on the Blazers, handing Portland one of the worst losses in the team’s history. Gen G. took over with a 30-13 run in the second quarter and never looked back, eventually dismantling Blazer5 Gaming with a decisive 102-63 win. The Tigers came close to matching the season-high record of 108 points but fell six points short. ShifyKaii and DeadEye led the way for Shanghai once again, in this matchup.
Blazer5 Gaming (4-4) will play the second game of a back-to-back against Raptors Uprising GC on Thursday, while Gen. G Tigers (4-4) will wait for news on their next game when the Week 7 schedule is released. Both teams will participate in next week’s Season 3 Tip-Off event.
