After a Week 4 opening-night loss, NetsGC took to the virtual court just four days later against Magic Gaming in an attempt to get into the win column for the first time this season. Game 1 was a close one through two quarters, as Magic Gaming took a 33-28 lead into halftime. However, NetsGC stormed back with a 21-11 third quarter to take a five-point lead into the final period which it would not relinquish. This one was a battle of point guards, as both squad’s floor generals went off for huge scoring totals. Choc led the way for NetsGC with a hyper-efficient 39 points on 14-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-4 from deep, and Chess knocked in 15 points. Shuttle didn’t contribute in the scoring column, but he made up for that with 21 boards and seven assists. For Magic Gaming, Reizey went for a game-high 40 points, though it took 33 shots to get there. May stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, 22 rebounds, five steals, four blocks and three dimes.

The loss in Game 1 seemed to take the air out of Magic Gaming’s sails, as the team didn’t score for the first four minutes of the ensuing contest, while NetsGC opened on an 11-0 run. The lead ballooned to 20-2 as the first quarter closed, thanks to eight points from Chess, six from Randomz and four from Choc. Magic Gaming cut into the deficit slightly and took a 33-19 disparity into the break. The tale of the first half was shooting, as Magic Gaming got some open looks but shot just 8-for-23 from the floor and 2-for-12 from deep, compared to 13-for-23 from the floor and 3-for-6 from deep for NetsGC. Choc scored 12 in the first half, Chess went for 11 and Shuttles grabbed 11 boards. Despite the poor first half, Magic Gaming kept pushing and eventually cut the deficit to 10 in the fourth quarter before a Nets’ three-pointer all but sealed the victory. NetsGC ultimately won 62-49 to complete the sweep. Once again, Choc did the bulk of the scoring for NetsGC, going for 29 and seven assists. Chess added 17, and Shuttles crashed the boards to finish with six points and 20 rebounds. For Magic Gaming, Reizey and May each went for 14 points, while the latter hauled in 17 rebounds for his second double-double of the night.

NetsGC grabs its first victory of the 2020 campaign to improve to 1-1 on the season, but there’s no time to rest on its laurels. Brooklyn will play every night in Week 5 to make up for the late start to the season. Magic Gaming falls to 1-4 with the loss.
