T-Wolves Gaming continued their title defense Wednesday by sweeping NBA 2K League newcomers, Gen.G Gaming.
T-Wolves Gaming started off Game 1 on a high note, carrying a 24-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. Gen.G Tigers managed to chip away at the lead as the game progressed, cutting the lead to one point by the end of the third quarter. However, Minnesota managed to pull away in the final frame as they secured an 80-67 victory.
BearDaBeast served as the heart of T-Wolves Gaming’s offense as usual, finishing Game 1 with 34 points and 10 assists. FEAST had a big game at center with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and solid performances from JMoney (14 points, three assists) and Big Saint (12 points, two rebounds) helped put the defending champions over the top. ShiftyKaii (32 points, 10 assists) and Killeyy (24 points, 10 rebounds) carried the torch for Gen.G Tigers, but they failed to get enough help from their teammates to complete their comeback bid.
Gen.G Tigers had much better luck during the first half of Game 2 as they held a four-point lead at the end of the first quarter. They faltered slightly in the second quarter, trailing by one point entering halftime. Despite a big third quarter by T-Wolves Gaming, Gen.G put the pressure on during the fourth quarter, beginning the quarter on a 10-0 run, but T-Wolves Gaming hit several clutch three-pointers in the final minute to force overtime. The Shanghai club ran out of gas in the extra period, and the T-Wolves managed to pick up the sweep with a 75-72 win.
BearDaBeast had 32 points, seven assists and three steals, while FEAST contributed 12 points and 20 rebounds for T-Wolves Gaming during Game 2. However, JMoney (18 points, two steals) managed to convert on multiple late shots to keep the team in the game late in regulation. The usual stars remained hot for Gen.G Tigers, with ShiftyKaii finishing with 41 points, five rebounds and four steals, while Killeyy pitched in with 16 points and 12 rebounds of his own.
Gen.G Tigers will look to find some consistency Thursday against Bucks Gaming, while T-Wolves Gaming will get a break until June 9, when they face off against Grizz Gaming.
