With a 2-0 record heading into the Wednesday’s contest, Mavs Gaming was expected to roll over Lakers Gaming, who had one of the worst records in the league last year and already were at 0-2 on the season. The Lakers put up a fight but ultimately could not seal the deal, as the Mavs won the series, 2-1.
Game 1 was an absolute blowout by Lakers Gaming, who took the Mavs by surprise with a 80-47 win. Sherm took a confusing route in this game by playing more off-the-ball than he had in their first two wins, and it resulted in some anemic offensive output for Mavs Gaming. Sherm generated only 13 points and four assists, while Dimez led the team in scoring with 16 points and three assists. The Lakers lit up the box score with their best game yet. SAV almost outscored the Mavs by himself, with 41 points, six assists and three rebounds, and Taptuk kept things secure under the basket with eight points, 14 rebounds, and an eye-popping eight blocks.
Mavs Gaming appeared to right the ship in Game 2, as they utilized Sherm more effectively and distributed the ball with much more efficiency. This switch revealed some o Lakers Gaming’s weaknesses on defense, and Dallas took full advantage, evening the series with a 72-67 win. Both Sherm (26 points, five assists) and Dimez (28 points, four assists) led the way for Mavs Gaming, while PeteBeBallin thrived in the pain with nine points, 10 rebounds and six blocks. The Lakers still played well on offense despite falling apart defensively, with SAV throwing up 31 points. Dweq also notched 16 points in the backcourt, and Tactuk turned in another double-double, posting 12 points and 14 rebounds.
The final game of the series was NBA2K at its best, as the game came down to the final seconds. The Lakers appeared ready to take the game down, but in the final two minutes, the Mavs took the ball away from Lakers Gaming three times in a row and turned it into a one-possession game. After drilling a three to take the lead with 16 seconds left, Mavs Gaming turned on the defense, smothering the Lakers, who couldn’t find an easy shot to win. A long-range shot bounced off the rim, and the Mavericks notched their third win of the season, 67-66. The shooting guard position was the true star of this game, as Dimez came up huge for the Mavs in Game 3, generating 42 points, five steals and three assists. On the other end, SAV was the only player in double digits for the Lakers, posting 46 points.
At 0-3, the Lakers will hope to turn things around Thursday against Blazers Gaming. Mavs Gaming (3-0) will look to stay unbeaten when they face Kings Guard Gaming on Friday.
