Grizz Gaming tipped off its 2020 season Tuesday against Raptors Uprising GC, a squad with an undefeated 2-0 record. Game 1 saw a narrow 39-36 Raptors Uprising lead at halftime balloon throughout the second half, as the Raptors used a 25-12 third quarter advantage and then a massive 34-13 final frame to push the ending margin of victory to 37. Every Raptors player scored in double figures, with Timelycook and Legit 973 each going for 14 and ReeceMode knocking down 20. However, point guard Kenny Got Work and center Sick One were the real stars of this one, as Kenny Got Work went for 28 points, nine dimes and six swipes, while Sick One casually got a triple-double with 22 points, 12 boards and 10 helpers. Grizz Gaming got little help in the scoring department outside of point guard Vandi, who provided more than half of the team’s 61 points, with a 33-point performance. Center GOOFY 757 doubled-doubled with 17 points and 10 rebounds to go with four assists and three blocks.

Game 2 was more of the same from Raptors Uprising GC, who jumped out to an early 20-9 lead after the first quarter and a strong 39-25 lead at the break. The team posted a strong second half to balloon the lead and finish with a comfortable 84-62 victory in the series-clinching match. RUG got another solid team effort, as four of five players scored in double figures. Kenny Got Work paced the squad with 26 points to go with four steals, ReeceMode chipped in 21 points and eight dimes, Timelycook added 18 points and three steals and Sick One nearly provided a second straight triple-double, finishing with 12 points, 19 boards, eight assists, five blocks and four steals. While Raptors Uprising GC got a well-rounded effort from its team, Grizz Gaming was once again a two-man show with Vandi and GOOFY 757 doing the heavy lifting. Vandi posted 25 points and seven assists while GOOFY 757 stuffed the box score with 17 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, three blocks and two steals.

Despite the blowout nature of both contests, the marquee matchup of centers lived up to the hype and provided some excitement, as GOOFY 757 and Sick One played quality basketball throughout. It was a disappointing opener for Grizz Gaming, but the team has a quick turnaround and will go for its first win Wednesday against Hawks Talon GC. Raptors Uprising GC, on the other hand, continued its run of dominance to improve to a perfect 3-0 record and make a legitimate case as the best team in the 2K League thus far.
