The 2K League’s Series of the Week did not disappoint, as both teams continued their quest for redemption after trying 2019 campaigns. The District came into the regular season on a hot streak after taking the Spring 16 Tournament they, but they lost their opener against Raptors Uprising GC, 2-1. The Washington squad bounced back in a big way Friday, notching a decisive 2-0 win over Magic Gaming.

Game 1 was a hotly-contested matchup that came down to the final seconds. A timely three-pointer from ReeseDaGod gave the Wizards a 61-58 lead late in the game, but he later missed a key free throw to give the Magic a glimmer of hope. Orlando elected to go for the win from beyond the arc, but DJBama’s shot did not fall, giving Wizards Gaming the 64-62 win. ReeseDaGod led the way for the Wizards with 23 points and six threes, stealing the thunder from top pick JBM, who put up 19 points and eight assists. The Magic won the interior game, with DT outdoing DayFri’s line with a 21-point, 17-rebound double-double. Reizey continued his excellent play and nearly had a double-double himself, scoring 19 points and tallying nine assists.

The Wizards closed the deal in Game 2, taking the momentum in the second quarter and cruising through the second half with a huge lead. Magic Gaming clawed within eight points but were unable to gain further traction and eventually folded, losing 59-51. While JBM played well enough to help his team win, the highly-touted point guard struggled a bit this series, averaging 18.0 points and going 1-for-7 from beyond the arc. Both ReeseDaGod and BRich drilled four threes in the win, and DayFri won the battle under the basket with an 11-point, 15-rebound double-double. On the other side, Reizey scored 17 points but committed six turnovers in the contest. Aside from DT’s 20 and 10 effort and Reizey’s line, the team was largely shut down, as the remaining starts totaled just 16 points.

Wizards District (1-1) will kick off Week 2 against Heat Check Gaming (0-2), while Magic Gaming (1-1) will get a week to regroup before facing Jazz Gaming (0-0) in Week 3.
