Yet another favorite took a major fall down the standings Friday, as Hawks Talon GC’s Week 11 75-67 over Pacers Gaming on Friday has thrown a major wrench in the projected playoffs.
Prior to the start of Week 11, Pacers Gaming (8-6) entered the second-to-last week of the regular season as the No. 4 seed and well situated for a playoff berth. Their second loss Friday, this time to an Atlanta (5-9) squad that was already eliminated from playoff contention, has now dropped Pacers Gaming precariously to the No. 8 seed and possibly out of the postseason altogether.
For the second consecutive time Friday, Pacers Gaming allowed an alarming amount of threes to their opponent, this time yielding 12-of-23 3-pointers to a Hawks Talon Squad that has struggled to consistently generate any sort of offense. Hawks point guard Rando was the prime threat from deep, connecting on 4-of-7 from three-point land including multiple three pointers during a 14-0 stretch in the third quarter which essentially pushed the game out of reach.
Pacers Gaming did end up making this a contest towards the end of the fourth, trailing by only four points despite entering the final frame down 12. Unfortunately the team’s inability to stop a three came back to rear its ugly head, as XxSTL2LAxX drained a heavily contested three in the corner with just over a minute to play to essentially clinch the win.
Rando earned Intel Player of the Game honors with a stellar 23-point (9-13 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT), seven-assist effort while center Arsonal also contributed to the team’s victory with his typical 19-point, 14-rebound double-double. For Pacers Gaming, an excellent night from the field (30-of-42) was essentially wiped out by such a drastic difference from deep, a difficult issue made worse considering they lost the rebounding advantage (19 to 13) and turnover battle (seven to five).
