Raptors Uprising GC (4-5) took down a hot Grizz Gaming (4-5) by a score of 60-56 on Wednesday during Week 7 of the NBA 2K League.
Grizz Gaming had won three straight coming into this contest, winning four of its last five games, but couldn’t handle small forward Kenny Got Work. Kenny had a monster game, going for 27 points, three rebounds, five assists and a whopping six steals. The man was on fire throughout the game, going 11-for-19 on field goal attempts and five-for-eight from beyond the arc. This win was a team win, of course, as Sick x 973 kicked in 21 points of his own while TsJosh picked up three steals as he led a staunch defensive front for the North. Apart from losing the second quarter 19-to-9, the Raptors made sure to win quarters in strong fashion, allowing some garbage time buckets to make the competition seem more competitive than it actually was. It’s tough to say if this Raptors should be the expected norm going forward, but it’s nice to see Kenny Got Work put on a clinic for a strong Raptors win.
Grizz Gaming was looking hot coming into this one, but simply seemed out of gas. After a hard-fought win over the Wizards earlier in the evening, Vandi couldn’t find his rhythm offensively, putting up just 12 points along with seven assists. For a shooting point guard, only shooting five-of-12 from the field is rough, especially with AuthenticAfrican, DDouble and Jayrod all scoring in the double digits. The Grizz played good team ball on defense, in that they played as a team regardless of whether the defense was doing its job or not. The Grizz surrendered three-point attempts with unsettling ease, letting a team that isn’t usually dominant in Toronto light up the floor. The Grizz and Raptors are both still in playoff contention and able to learn from this contest going forward, with a potential rematch possibly on the horizon as both teams sit at 4-5.
