Grizz Hold on For Scrappy Win

May 29, 2019

Grizz Gaming (4-4) held on against Wizards District Gaming (2-5), winning its third game in a row by a score of 54-51 on Wednesday to kick off Week 7 of the NBA 2K League.

Both teams were riding waves of momentum into this matchup, with the Wizards picking up its first two wins of the season off of insane games from ReeseDaGod while the Grizz had quietly gone 3-1 in the month of May. Early on, the Grizz dominated, starting the first quarter on an 11-2 scoring run. DDouble picked up most of his 14 points in the period and put Demon JT on a cold ring well into the end of the first half. ReeseDaGod kept the Wizards alive throughout the first half, scoring 17 and shooting five-of-eight from behind the arc, but all he could do was cut the Grizz lead to a managable five points. Vandi led the Grizz in the first half, shooting lights out while not making many mistakes in what quickly began to feel like a potential blowout.

ReeseDaGod had other plans, though. Even with DDouble defending him like a dog and not allowing him to get good looks, ReeseDaGod commanded so much attention from Grizz Gaming that it created space for Dayfri and Demon JT to get going offensively. Demon JT started hitting shots in the second half, getting off his cold ring and finding open looks for Dayfri. Still, the Wizards couldn’t go on a real run without the Grizz scoring in response or else playing lockdown defense. The fourth quarter went in Grizz Gaming’s favor nine-to-seven, but it was the most exciting 16-point quarter you’ll ever see. In the end, an offensive goaltending call awkwardly ended the Wizards’ changes, giving the Grizz a scrappy 54-51 win as it continues to gather momentum.
