Mavs Gaming (8-0) made history Wednesday, picking up its eighth straight win by flattening Bucks Gaming (4-5) 59-45 during Week 6 of the NBA 2K League.
For the first time in NBA 2K League history, a team has started the season with an eight-game winning streak. Mavs Gaming showed just how hard it is to stop with a balanced attack as, yet again, every one of the Mavs got involved in the scoring. Dimez was by far the best player in a Mavs jersey, slicing up the Bucks’ soft defense for 25 points and eight assists. With Dimez cutting to the rim at will and making defenders miss, PeteBeBallin and Mo got to work with minimal attention from the Bucks, with PeteBeBallin pulling down a career-high 15 rebounds with his 10 points while Mo scored 12 on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. On defense, PeteBeBallin recorded four steals and sealed the paint while Sherm continued to prove why he’s one of the best in the league. The Mavs looked sloppy at times, perhaps expecting the Bucks to roll over and give up after falling far behind, but the Mavs would eventually put the game away with a 18-to-9 fourth quarter, continuing its monster win streak and claim to the top of the 2K League standings.
Bucks Gaming, meanwhile, looked panicked in the face of losing its fifth game out of its last seven, starting with its decisions in lineup. Swapping Chaddynick to point guard and SlayIsland to shooting guard backfired in a big way, with Chaddynick finishing with zero points and only two assists while turning the ball over four times and committing three fouls. SlayIsland didn’t fare much better, only scoring three and letting Dimez score at will. Meanwhile, while most were anticipating the big man matchup of PeteBeBallin going up against Plondo, Plondo swapping archetypes to sharpshooting rebounder meant that he couldn’t go heads-up with Pete in the paint. The Bucks’ frontcourt did what it could, with Arooks scoring 25 and BigMeek putting in most of his 10 points in the second half, but the backcourt’s struggles were simply too much to overcome. The Bucks need to regroup quickly with Warriors Gaming Squad coming up, or else face getting knocked out of playoff contention all together.
