Third-Quarter Surge Aids Jazz Gaming

May 3, 2019

Thanks to a third-quarter surge Friday, Jazz Gaming (3-2) earned their third straight victory, this time defeating Grizz Gaming (1-4) by a margin of 75-57 to conclude Week 4 action in the NBA 2K League.

It’s hard to imagine Grizz Gaming just knocked off Bucks Gaming based on what occurred Friday. But that’s what happens when a team concedes a 27-9 third quarter which saw Jazz Gaming, who were only leading by one at halftime, easily snuff out their cellar-dwelling competition.

Both point guards had their fair share of opportunities throughout the game, but it was Yeah I Compete who kept Jazz Gaming in the contest early, posting 18 of his team’s 33 first half points. That damage was done in large part because of a destructive pick and roll, with the second-year PG seemingly taking advantage of every nook and cranny of space to connect on three of four three pointers through the first 12 minutes.

Compete would only finish with 25 points, but the scoring surge kept his team afloat until the third quarter when the frontcourt of Jazz Gaming combined to tally 20 of the team’s 27 points in the aforementioned frame. Center Ria was a significant part of that endeavor making all five of his field goal attempts during that stretch.

Grizz Gaming point guard Vandi would attempt to rally his team back into the contest, scoring 11 of his 20 points in the second half, but it was far too little, far too late. Small forward Jayrod missed multiple crucial three pointers, finishing the game with six points on 2-7 FG in what was an ugly contest overall for Grizz Gaming.
