Mavs Gaming came away with a 63-58 victory over Jazz Gaming during Week 2 of the NBA 2K League action Thursday night. Neither team will have long to think about the end result, as both squads are slated to play one more game this week. The Jazz will take on Hawks Talon GC and the Mavs will face off against Wizards District Gaming on Friday.
It was Jazz Gaming who got off to a fast start in this contest, as they put up 20 shot attempts from the field in the first quarter and got out to a 12-9 lead. They’d start the second period of play on a 10-5 run, giving the Jazz a 22-14 cushion. The Mavs fought back with a run of their own, however, and cut the lead down to one point with just under two minutes remaining in the half, forcing Jazz Gaming to call a timeout. It was Jazz Gaming with a 29-26 lead after two quarters of action. MOAM led Jazz Gaming with 15 points along with three steals and a pair of boards, while Mo headed the scoring effort for Mavs Gaming, tallying eight points, two assists and a block.
The contest remained a back-and-forth affair throughout the third stanza, with both teams exchanging blows from beyond the arc. The Mavs forced Jazz Gaming to take another timeout with less than a minute remaining in the quarter after feasting on a couple of Jazz turnovers and taking a 48-42 advantage. It was more Mavs in the fourth, as they opened the final quarter on a 5-0 run and ultimately secured the victory.
The difference in this one was Mavs Gaming’s ability to drain shots from beyond the arc, knocking down eight of 11 attempts. PeteBeBallin was clearly the player of the game, finishing with 25 points, 14 boards, four assist and three boards for the Mavs, while Mo racked up 16 points and Dimez had 12. MOAM (19 points), Gliz (16 points) and Ria all totaled 10-plus points for the Jazz. With the win, the Mavs improve to 2-0 in regular-season play, while Jazz Gaming is still without a victory through the first two weeks.
