Warriors Gaming Squad halt comeback, defeat Lakers Gaming

Cameron Wilhorn | RotoWire

Warriors Gaming Squad took down Lakers Gaming 69-58 on Thursday during The Tipoff, Powered by AT&T.

After giving up over 100 points in their last contest, the Lakers continued to give up easy baskets Thursday, allowing the Warriors to go 9-for-10 from the field in the first quarter, with assists on all nine made baskets. After calling a timeout down multiple possessions with roughly 90 seconds left in the period, the Lakers notched a quick 7-0 run to bring the score to 20-18 at the end of one. Despite turning the ball over three times in the second period, the Warriors were able to trade baskets early with Lakers Gaming before eventually pulling away after getting nine points from CB13. Warriors Gaming Squad entered the break up 10, 39-29. Nay notched a first-half double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while CB13 led all scorers with 12. For the Lakers, ShiftyKaii and YooVC each scored 10 points, however, the team went 3-for-12 from long distance in the half.

Facing a 10-point deficit, ShiftyKaii did all he could to will the Lakers back into the contest, single-handedly outscoring the Warriors 12-4 to start the period and trimming the difference to two. ShiftyKaii would account for 14 of the team’s 16 third-quarter points and despite holding the Warriors to 12 points, Lakers Gaming entered the final frame down 51-45. Although the Lakers threatened, Warriors Gaming Squad kept them at an arms’ length early on, forcing a pair of turnovers and punishing the Lakers in transition. However, a quick three, a block and a dunk brought the difference to two with 90 seconds to play and prompted a Warriors timeout. Coming out of the pause, Seese drilled a mid-range jumper and was found on a backdoor cut for a dunk on back-to-back possessions. With no answer from the Lakers on the other end, Warriors Gaming Squad found themselves up six with less than 30 seconds to play and held on to win 69-58. ShiftyKaii provided over half of the Lakers’ points Thursday, tallying 30 points and seven assists on 13-of-16 shooting. All five Warriors players finished in double figures, with Nay (16 points, 17 rebounds, three steals) and Mama Im Dat Man (14 points, 10 assists) registering double-doubles while Kenny Got Work led the team with 17 points.
