Grizz Gaming cruise past DUX Infinitos thanks to strong fourth quarter
Joe Mayo | RotoWire
Grizz Gaming moved to 2-2 in group play with a win in THE TIPOFF, powered by AT&T, after defeating DUX Infinitos 75-60 on Wednesday.
Spartxn got Grizz Gaming on the board first with an early dunk, of which he had two in the first minute. After being held scoreless in the first minute, Ryan1of1 put DUX Infinitos on the board with a mid-range jumper. This prompted both teams to go back and forth, combining for 10 points in two possessions each. Ryan1of1 made his first three-pointer of the game with 2:17 remaining, prompting DUX Infinitos to pull away. The combination of Ryan1of1 and Big Reign overpowered Grizz Gaming in the opening quarter, leading to a 21-15 lead. Ryan1of1 had 10 points and three assists, and Big Reign posted six points shooting 3-3 from the field. Grizz Gaming was able to weather the storm thanks to Vandi, who put up two points and five assists. IcyyTheGoat and Spartxn also registered four points each. Gazulli and IcyyTheGoat began the second by trading two-pointers. Both teams failed to put together much offensively in the second, as Grizz Gaming outscored DUX Infinitos 14-9. Ryan1of1 was horrendous, missing several attempts and ending the half 3-12 from the field and 2-10 from deep. IcyyTheGoat led Grizz Gaming in scoring at the half, racking up 10 points on 5-6 from the field, lowering the deficit to just one. Although he shot just 2-7 from the field, Vandi chipped in eight assists.
The third quarter got off to a slow start, as the offensive struggles continued. DUX relied on Gazulli, who had seven points in the quarter. After missing his first two three-point attempts of the half, Ryan1of1 finally saw one go in with under a minute left in the third. Grizz Gaming was slightly better, as they outscored DUX Infinitos 17-14, thanks to five points from rigby and seven from Vandi. The fourth quarter saw both teams battling with two-pointers. The game remained close until rigby hit a deep three-pointer with 3:27 remaining. This opened the floodgates as he continued to make it rain, hitting four three-pointers in the final 3:17. DUX Infinitos’ inability to shoot from beyond the arc was their downfall, as Grizz Gaming outscored them by 13 in the fourth. Big Reign led DUX Iinfinitos with a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double. Vandi had 16 points and 17 assists for Grizz Gaming. However, rigby was seemingly the MVP, scoring 25 points and shooting 5-6 from deep, tying DUX iInfinitos in three-pointers by himself.
