NetsGC put on offensive clinic in rout of Hawks Talon GC
Cameron Wilhorn | RotoWire
NetsGC picked up an 83-69 win in Tuesday’s matchup between the top two picks of the 2023 2k League Draft versus Hawks Talon GC in THE TIPOFF, Powered by AT&T.
Greens opened the match on a mission, scoring the first five points for NetsGC to make the Hawks think twice about taking MDS over him with the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft. After a slow start, Hawks Talon GC’s offense came around late in the first period, posting a 7-0 run to take the lead with less than a minute to go. They would hold onto the lead and head into the second period up 18-17 behind 10 points from Ceez. The point guard battle continued in the second quarter, with both offenses getting massive contributions from their floor generals and trading baskets. With 4:15 left in the period, the game was knotted up at 25, then the Nets caught fire. They would rip off a 15-4 run to earn a double-digit lead and would enter the break up 48-34 after outscoring Hawks Talon GC 31-16 in the quarter. NetsGC had no problems scoring on the Hawks abysmal defense, knocking down 17-of-21 shots from the field while making all eight of their three pointers. Greens and Streetz led the way for the Nets, with the point guard accumulating 17 points and five assists while Streetz posted 13 points and two steals on 4-of-4 shooting. On the other side, Ceez was doing it all for Hawks Talon GC, scoring 15 points while dishing out five assists.
Ceez continued to carry the Hawks offense early in the third, hitting an and-1 layup that accounted for three of his eight third-quarter points. NetsGC continued to find open looks, shooting 8-of-10 from the field and remaining perfect from beyond the arc to hold a 66-54 advantage moving into the final period. After a slow start, MDS came alive to start the fourth as the team faced an 18-point deficit, knocking down back-to-back triples to bring the difference to 12 and forcing the Nets to call timeout. Glennratty neutralized any momentum the Hawks had built up, downing a triple to bring the lead back to 15. The final score would be 83-69, as the Hawks’ failed to string together enough stops to get within striking distance. NetsGC finished the game shooting 32-of-43 from the field (74 percent), while only missing one of their 12 attempts from three. In his 5v5 debut, Greens racked up 29 points with nine assists, while Glennratty finished with 22 points and two steals. The Hawks received a double-double from Hotshotx305 (12 points and 12 rebounds) while Ceez posted 25 points and eight assists while knocking down four triples.
