Gen.G Tigers managed to pick up a sweep against Lakers Gaming in Group 6 pool play Tuesday in THE TIPOFF, powered by AT&T, after winning two games by sizable margins.
Gen.G Tigers got off to a hot start in the first half of Game 1 and entered halftime with a 44-28 lead. Lakers Gaming was able to offer some pushback in the third quarter, outscoring Shanghai 18-13 in the quarter, but Gen.G Tigers quelled the comeback effort in the final frame, securing a 79-60 win.
It was a true team effort for Gen.G Tigers in the first contest, as all of their players recorded double-digit point totals. Killeyy led the team in scoring with 21 points along with seven rebounds. ShiftyKaii struggled from the floor, going just 5-for-17 on his field goal attempts, but he still managed to log a double-double with 12 points, 17 assists and four steals. Deadeye had a double-double of his own with 18 points, 17 rebounds and six assists. SAV led his team on the scoreboard with 23 points and nine rebounds, and while Dweq had 20 points and 10 assists, he also committed 10 turnovers.
In Game 2, Lakers Gaming trailed 19-14 at the end of the first quarter, and Gen.G Tigers turned on the jets in the second quarter to go into the half with a 49-25 lead. The Shanghai club kept up their scoring surge throughout the second half and emerged with an 87-58 victory to complete the sweep.
ShiftyKaii came alive for Gen.G Tigers in the second game, coming within one point of tying the NBA 2K League single-game scoring record as he finished with 76 points and four steals. Deadeye finished with a unique triple-double with 17 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals despite notching just two points. Dweq led Lakers Gaming with 20 points and seven assists, while SAV finished with four points, 12 rebounds and eight assists, but the team struggled from the floor, going just 22-for-49 on field goal attempts.
With their undefeated record, Gen.G Tigers clinched the wild card spot and will face Group 7 winner Cavs Legion Gaming in the quarterfinal round, while Lakers Gaming will finish THE TIPOFF, powered by AT&T, with a winless record.
